"A Failure of Security" — AOC Demands Full Investigation Into How WHCD Shooter Got Through
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is addressing the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting — and she is not accepting the premise that Democratic rhetoric is responsible for what happened.
AOC pushed back directly on the framing coming from the White House — arguing that Democrats have an obligation to name criminal behavior in office, and that doing so is not incitement. She pointed to ongoing questions she said remain unanswered — the Epstein files disclosure that she argues is still being covered up even after Pam Bondi's dismissal, potential money laundering through cryptocurrency deals, and questions about possible bribery or extortion involving media company settlements. These are not political attacks, she argued. They are accountability. And using a violent incident to escape accountability for actions in office is not a responsible course of action.
On the question of whether Democratic rhetoric crossed a line — AOC drew the distinction clearly. There is a level of rhetoric that is too far. No one should call for violence. That line is bright and clear. And to her knowledge, she said, no Democrat has crossed it. If the administration has evidence to the contrary, she challenged them to produce it. Until then, the framing is an attempt to shut down accountability under cover of tragedy.
