WATCH: Sen Joe Manchin explains why Kamala Harris' plan to end Roe v Wade filibuster won't work
WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Joe Manchin has called out Kamala Harris on her support for ending the filibuster for the restoration of Roe v Wade.
The outgoing West Virginia Senator shared his thoughts on the Democratic presidential candidate's stance, "She knows the filibuster is the Holy Grail of democracy. It's the only thing that keeps us talking and working together. If she gets rid of that, then this would be the House [of Representatives] on steroids."
“Shame on her,” Manchin added.

Joe Manchin won't endorse Kamala Harris
The former Democratic leader, who previously hinted at endorsing Kamala Harris, made it clear during the media interview that he won’t be backing her to be the next president over her policies.
“That ain’t going to happen. I think that basically can destroy our country, and my country is more important to me than any one person or any one person’s ideology. … I think it’s the most horrible thing,” Manchin said on Tuesday, September 24, per CNN.
Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema joined Manchin in criticizing Harris on her filibuster plan over social media.
“To state the supremely obvious, eliminating the filibuster to codify Roe v Wade also enables a future Congress to ban all abortion nationwide. What an absolutely terrible, shortsighted idea,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Harris, during her interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, earlier reiterated the need to eliminate the filibuster for Roe v Wade.
"I've been very clear, I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe, and get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom and for the ability of every person and every woman to make decisions about their own body and not have their government tell them what to do," reported NPR.

Internet slams Joe Manchin for not supporting Kamala Harris' Roe v Wade restoration plan
Netizens weighed in on Joe Manchin's refusal to endorse Kamala Harris over her policies, including the Vice President's call for supporting Roe v Wade restoration.
A user shared on X, "History will not treat Manchin well. He was one with the coal cartel and a Republican at heart."
"He’s been a major roadblock in the Senate for years. So glad he will be gone," another person reacted.
Someone else commented, "The filibuster acts as a blockade to democracy. In the hands of Republican senators, it has been used as a means to not legislate."
"Your retirement cannot come quick enough. Good riddance," another joked on Manchin for not opting for reelection.
One opined, "I respect Manchin, but this seems to be a knee-jerk reaction based on a singular issue. Perhaps a bit more thought on his part was merited. But again...I respect him."
"Glad he’s leaving. The dude is playing by 2010 senate rules in a different era," another online user said.
