WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump once donated to his likely presidential opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, while she was running for the California attorney general election, which, in turn, she contributed to civil and human rights advocates.

This prompted mockery of the Republican nominee from politicians from both the Democratic and GOP sides.

Rep Jared Moskowitz shared an image of the real estate mogul's $5000 donation to Harris's campaign for attorney general of California re-election in 2011.

"Was a wise investment," the Florida Democrat captioned the post on X, poking fun at Trump.

President Joe Biden endorsed Harris for the Democratic nomination after announcing his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race on Sunday, July 21. The vice president accepted the endorsement, pledging to do everything to unify the Democratic Party and defeat Trump and his "extreme" Project 2025.

Before Harris grabbed Biden's running mate ticket in 2020, the 45th president donated twice to her election campaigns, according to a 2020 Business Insider report. It claimed the billionaire contributed a total of $6000, including a $1,000 check from 2013, in addition to the $5,000 noted by Moskowitz.

Notably, it was before Trump embarked on his first presidential bid when he was a private citizen.

There were speculations at the time that the contributions were made to gain favor against the class-action lawsuit in California on the Trump University. The then-AG did not prosecute the case during her term.

After Trump started his White House run in 2015, Harris donated his contributions to a nonprofit focused on advocating for civil and human rights for Central Americans, according to the Sacramento Bee. At the time, a Trump advisor notified PBS Newshour that he "donated to candidates across all aisles."

The vice president's ascension to Biden's shoes resulted from mounting pressure on the latter to drop out after displaying a disastrous debate performance against his predecessor last month.

Though Harris managed to secure endorsement from prominent Democrats like Bill and Hillary Clinton and California Gov Gavin Newsom, other closest Biden allies, including Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, are yet to throw in their support.

In addition, some democrats are calling for an open convention instead of directly promoting Harris for the nomination. For instance, Sen Joe Manchin was reportedly planning to compete for the Democratic ticket.

Internet trolls Trump for donating to Kamala Harris

Netizens ridiculed Trump over his past donations to Harris's election campaigns. While some joked the check might have bounced, others said the VP should use it as a campaign ad.

"It definitely bounced," a user quipped.

"That would make a good campaign ad for Kamala Harris. We need that on billboards everywhere," another remarked.

"Even Trump thinks Kamala is a winner," added a third user.

"The best investment Trump ever made," read a fourth response.

"Hahhahahahahaaaaaaa. Actually, this is brilliant and she should thank him every time she sees him. What an endorsement. Not once, but twice! Oh, and it should be everyone's answer when they try to shit talk our President candidate," one user commented below Raw Story's article.

"Some MAGATS insisted the $15 Crooks donated to Act Blue made him a Lib, not a Republican. So what do they say about Trump, since he donated $5000 to Harris? A TINO (Trumper In Name Only)?" someone else chimed in.

"At their Debate - First thing, she should do is thank him for the donation. And mention it a few more times during the debateThat should set him off for the rest of the night," suggested an individual.
