MADISON, WISCONSIN: After Donald Trump declared he would only operate like a “dictator” on “day one” if he were to return to the White House, former Representative Liz Cheney warned about the possibility of a second cycle of his presidency.

“I think we have to take everything that Donald Trump says literally and seriously,” Cheney said during a preview for an upcoming episode of ABC News’ 'This Week'.

Liz Cheney's take on Donald Trump's 'dictator' talk

While talking to interviewer Jonathan Karl and referring to Donald Trump’s connection to the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, Cheney said, "And I think that we saw, frankly, what he was willing to do already after the 2020 election, in the lead-up to Jan. 6, after Jan. 6."

The remarks from Cheney, a vigorous opponent of Trump, come days after she stated on the 'Today' show that if Trump is reelected in 2024, a dictatorship is a "very, very real threat and concern."

These statements were broadcast before Trump participated in a town hall meeting on December 5 with Sean Hannity of Fox News.

Hannity questioned Trump about his commitment to America not to "abuse power as retribution against anybody" during that broadcast event to which Trump replied, "Except for day one."

Earlier in her interview with Karl, Cheney stated that when Trump awoke on the day of the 2021 Capitol riot, he anticipated continuing as president.

"We saw the extent to which he was willing to attempt to seize power when he lost an election," she said.

Internet reacts to Liz Cheney's statements

Many people on the internet reacted to Liz Cheney's statement on Donald Trump. A user wrote, "Have u ever seen a photo of her smiling? What a bitter person," while one reacted, "Liz and Trump are both fascists. All Republicans are."

Another user added, "Sure! She is just want to sell her book and get attention. She should sound the ALARM on Biden’s dictator behavior," and one user commented, "It’s amazing the lies she tells just to sell a book after all she just rode the coattails of family for office."

Another user said, "Lol...like lying on hundreds of peaceful protestors at J6 and withholding evidence that would prove their innocence? That kind of dictator action? Not talk, action."
