AUSTIN, TEXAS: Dan Patrick, the Republican lieutenant governor of Texas, found himself in hot water as he threatened to remove President Joe Biden from his state’s ballot after the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling booted Donald Trump from that state’s 2024 presidential race.

On Tuesday, December 19, the lieutenant governor made the comments on Fox News, telling anchor Laura Ingraham that the POTUS should be removed from the state ballot due to his handling of immigration.

He claimed that the only thing holding him back was the fact that people in Texas “believe in democracy.”

“Seeing what happened in Colorado makes me think—except we believe in democracy in Texas—maybe we should take Joe Biden off the ballot in Texas for allowing eight million people to cross the border since he’s been president disrupting our state,” Patrick said, according to MSNBC.

On Fox News, Patrick also defended a recently passed Texas law that criminalizes illegal border crossings, enabling local law enforcement to apprehend border crossers and granting local judges the authority to order their deportation.

The law was passed as Biden reportedly considers stricter border measures in exchange for aid to Ukraine. Texas has already been sued by immigration rights organizations over the legislation.

Colorado court disqualified Donald Trump from state ballot

Patrick’s comments came just a few hours after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled to dump Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential.

Citing Section 03 of the 14th Amendment, the 4-3 decision contended that Trump had instigated an insurrection by fabricated allegations of electoral fraud and by inciting his supporters to march on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The four majority justices decided that the presidency is subject to the insurrection clause, which prohibits people who previously swore allegiance to the Constitution as "officers of the United States," "members of Congress," "executive or judicial officers of any State," or "member of any State legislature" from rebelling against it.

Trump’s campaign has vowed to appeal the ruling to the US Supreme Court. Trump appointed three members of the US Supreme Court's six-member conservative majority.

“We have full confidence that the US Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these unAmerican lawsuits,” Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement.

Internet reacts to Dan Patrick’s remarks

Patrick’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for threatening to remove Biden from the state ballot.

“Go ahead nimrod, give it a shot and see how that works out for you…🤣” one user mocked Patrick. “How about Dan Patrick join the orange cult leader when he goes to prison,” a user trolled.

“Patrick is a moron. Only Trump promoted an insurrection, and he still does it virtually every day. He’s going to jail first, then Hell,” one user asserted.

“Maybe you, the Governor, and that lying Ken Paxton, should all resign and we'll elect some worthy Leadership,” a user opined while another user said, “What a joke we've become.”

“Republicans are spineless. They don't have the courage or heart to play hard ball like the Fascists do. They'll whine and yap about it and do nothing,” one more said.
