WASHINGTON, DC: As the third-party campaign ramps up ballot access efforts nationwide, a key aide to independent candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr stated on Wednesday, May 22, that she was quitting the campaign, citing an 'increasingly hateful and divisive atmosphere', according to The Hill.

Kennedy's campaign 'no longer aligns with my values', according to Angela Stanton King, the campaign's head of Black voter outreach.

RFK Jr's senior aide was a crucial advisor on abortion

Stanton King wrote on social media, "After much reflection, I’ve decided to step away from the political theater. I will continue to advise RFK Jr on key community issues."

She added, "Now, it’s time for me to pursue peace and fully dedicate myself to nonprofit work, supporting pregnant women and returning citizens. This new chapter excites me, as I focus on making a tangible difference where it’s needed most."

Notably, Stanton King was a crucial Kennedy advisor on abortion, a topic that will likely be heavily discussed in battleground states in November. Kennedy's and running partner Nicole Shanahan's contradictory remarks on abortion rights have drawn a lot of criticism.

Moreover, Kennedy, who had previously opposed federal limitations on access to abortion treatment, shifted his stance earlier in May to favor certain restrictions in response to requests from Shanahan and Stanton King.

In April, Shanahan declared that she and Kennedy are "dedicated to bringing to light solutions in the best interest of mother and baby." At Kennedy's first campaign event in May, she introduced Shanahan in person and was a regular presence.

Notably, Stanton King, a former Donald Trump supporter who served six months of home confinement in 2007 for her involvement in a car theft scheme, was pardoned by Trump in 2020. She went on to run for the GOP House in Atlanta.

Internet slams RFK Jr as key adviser leaves campaign

Several internet users slammed RFK Jr's camp as his key aid left the campaign, citing an 'increasingly hateful and divisive atmosphere'.

A user posted on X, "The wheels are coming off this clown car," while one added, "What? The RFK Jr campaign isn’t a healthy environment? Who would’ve guessed."

A person also stated, "He should just sit home, no character or class," whereas one mentioned, "You are a COURAGEOUS woman. To step away from power in order to maintain principle is true leadership. Bless you."

A person also wrote, "I fully understand this honestly. Politics can be a disgusting space to be in. It’s absolutely traumatizing to be a black Woman who genuinely loves her people but has a different opinion than her counterparts. Not for the weak at all," while one stated, "You better get a criminal lawyer, because you're going to need one."
