White House calls Mark Hamill 'sick' over Trump grave meme, blames left for inciting attacks
WASHINGTON, DC: The White House, on Thursday, May 7, sharply escalated its war with Hollywood after actor Mark Hamill posted an image appearing to show President Donald Trump lying dead in a grave.
In a blistering public response, the administration accused Hamill of promoting dangerous rhetoric and argued that repeated attacks from the political left have contributed to the increasingly violent threats surrounding Trump over the past two years.

These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves.
This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President. pic.twitter.com/daJqcyssm7
White House calls Mark Hamill 'sick'
The controversy erupted after Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the 'Star Wars' universe, shared an image on his verified Bluesky account depicting what appeared to be Trump buried beneath a gravestone marked with his name and dates. The image carried a short but provocative caption: “If Only.”
Within hours, the White House fired back with an unusually personal statement from its official communications channels.
“Mark Hamill is one sick individual,” the official White House Rapid Response account wrote. “These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves.”
The administration then linked Hamill’s post to the climate of political violence surrounding Trump.
“This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our president,” it added.
The post quickly spread across conservative media and political circles, with Trump allies accusing Hamill of normalizing violent imagery against a sitting president.

Hamill himself did not stop at the image.
In the text accompanying his post, he suggested Trump should remain alive long enough to suffer political defeat, impeachment, conviction, and historical disgrace - comments that only intensified backlash.
Alleged hate rhetoric by anti-Trump voices
The timing of Hamill’s post added another layer to the controversy.
Just days earlier, Hamill had appeared alongside former President Barack Obama in a Star Wars-themed promotional campaign for the Obama Presidential Center, which is scheduled to open next month.
Meanwhile, the political atmosphere in Washington remains tense following last month’s attempted shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Authorities say a suspect, identified in media reports as Cole Tomas Allen, was arrested after allegedly attempting to target Trump and senior political figures during the event.

The Hamill controversy has also revived scrutiny over remarks made by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel shortly before that attack, when he joked about First Lady Melania Trump appearing like an “expectant widow.”
