Whoopi Goldberg claims bakery 'refused' her special birthday dessert over 'politics', outlet responds
STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg’s birthday turned a bit bittersweet after her order was refused by a local bakery.
‘The View’ co-host, while celebrating her 69th on the show, opened up about the bakery without naming it.
How did Whoopi Goldberg celebrate her birthday?
After indulging in her birthday celebrations where 'The Colour Purple' actress gifted her audience with her favorite things, including Bavarian cream and fruit, Whoopi Goldberg revealed, "Now, I should tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political leanings, and the place that made these refused to make them for me."
The dessert is a trifle-esque treat with layers of sponge cake, which she always enjoyed a lot, reported People.
The other co-hosts also reacted strongly to Goldberg’s comment where Sunny Hostin asked, “Oh, really?” and Sara Haines immediately spit out her bite, in protest.
"They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I'm not telling you who made them,” Goldberg explained.
Reflecting on the refusal by the outlet, Goldberg weighed “It can’t be because I'm a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics.”
The ‘Sister Act’ star continued, “But that's okay because you know what? Listen, this is my mother's celebration. Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you everyone for celebrating my birthday today.”

What did bakery owner say about Whoopi Goldberg's statement?
Interestingly, Entertainment Weekly identified the place as Holtermann’s Bakery and reached out to its owner for her response.
Jill Holterman, the owner clarified "It was not because of political” affiliations, but rather because "we were having trouble with our boilers," per the outlet.
Holtermann further shared that Goldberg initially asked for treats for a November 6 talk show appearance and for her birthday broadcast on November 13, but the outlet had to pass the order since she "didn't want to make a commitment that [she couldn't] carry through.”
“I said to Whoopi, 'I can’t do it right now.' We have so many things going on with my boiler,' because the building is from 1930, so, when she called me, I had no idea [if we could] be baking everything."
Eventually, Goldberg did get her order on Wednesday morning as someone physically came to collect the order of around 50 Charlotte Russe desserts.
