MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: On this week’s episode of 'The View', Whoopi Goldberg expressed her skepticism about Kai Trump’s emotional speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC).

The 17-year-old granddaughter of former President Donald Trump had taken the stage with the intention of “show[ing] a side of my grandpa that people don’t often see.”

Whoopi Goldberg not swayed by Kai Trump's speech

Goldberg was not swayed by the young Trump’s heartfelt presentation.

“I know his grandchild was up on the thing and they’re trying to humanize [Trump] and change your idea about who this guy is,” Goldberg said on Thursday’s episode.

“Don’t fall for that.” Her comments reflect a larger doubt about the RNC’s strategy to reframe Trump’s public image through personal stories.

During her RNC address, Kai Trump aimed to portray her grandfather as “just a normal grandpa.”

She shared personal anecdotes to highlight his supportive nature, saying, “When I made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me.”

Kai also advanced a familiar Trump argument, claiming that “the media makes my grandpa seem like a different person, but I know him for who he is. He’s very caring and loving, he truly wants the best for this country.”

Kai Trump portrays grandfather as 'caring and loving' amid Trump team’s efforts to reframe his image

Kai Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr and his ex-wife Vanessa Trump, described her grandfather as a “caring and loving” figure who stays in touch with her despite his legal troubles.

“He calls me at school to talk about golf and ask how I’m doing even though he’s the one going through ‘all these court cases,’” she said.Trump was seen visibly blushing as his granddaughter spoke, clearly moved by her emotional tribute.

Her speech was well-received by Trump’s loyal supporters, who appreciated the personal insights into the former president’s character.

Goldberg’s comments come amid a broader effort by Trump’s team to soften his public persona, particularly following a recent assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

By featuring Kai Trump’s personal perspective at the convention, the RNC sought to present a different, more relatable image of the former president. However, Goldberg dismissed this approach as a strategic move rather than a genuine portrayal.

“They’re trying to humanize [Trump] and change your idea about who this guy is,” Goldberg reiterated. “Don’t fall for that.”

In addition to her critique of the RNC’s attempt to reframe Trump’s image, Goldberg also reaffirmed her support for President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign.

“I don’t care how old you are,” she said, “I don’t care if you can’t put two sentences together. If you get the job done, then I’m gonna follow you because that’s what I’m looking for.”
