Oliver Hudson claims his childhood ‘trauma’ comments about mom Goldie Hawn were 'taken out of context'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Oliver Hudson is addressing past comments he made about his childhood on his podcast 'Sibling Revelry' with sister Kate Hudson, during which he alluded to the "trauma" he had with his mother, Goldie Hawn.
According to the episode description, the 47-year-old actor made a comeback on Monday, April 1, to address the 'casual comments' he made that 'were turned into clickbait,' per Daily Mail.
During an appearance on the 'Sibling Revelry' podcast on Monday, March 18, Oliver had talked about being raised primarily by Goldie and her partner of 41 years, Kurt Russell.
Oliver Hudson clarifies his 'trauma' comments on mom Goldie Hawn
During the latest 'Sibling Revelry' podcast episode, Kate, 44, revealed that her brother Oliver "got in a little bit of heat" from his mother, Goldie Hawn, after he claimed he had experienced trauma throughout his childhood.
"My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about, interestingly enough, because she was my primary caregiver and I was with her all of the time, so I felt unprotected at times," Oliver had shared on the March 18 episode.
Oliver returned on Monday's episode to address the "casual comments" he made that, in the words of the episode's description, "were turned into clickbait".
He continued by saying that "everything is taken so far out of context" and that he was "afraid" to speak on the subject "even more," per PEOPLE.
"If you listen to the whole thing, it's more about sort of my child feelings in that moment rather than me and how I feel about Mom as a parent," Oliver remarked before giving the 'Overboard' star a salute.
The 'Rules of Engagement' actor went on to describe his intense affection for his 78-year-old mother.
He further added, "I don't know who I would be without my mother," insisting that he had dealt with the "repercussions" and that the situation was "over."
"I can't even fathom it. The love that I have for her and the respect and the reverence that I have for her is beyond anything. So it was just, you know, completely taken out of context."
Oliver first warned listeners not to "pay attention to that bulls**t", but then pointed out that the term "trauma" is often used as a buzzword.
"There was no trauma coming from my mother's you know ... the way she raised me in any way whatsoever," said Oliver. "You know, you're speaking from a 5, 6-year-old person. That's what I was doing. Without her, again, I'd be nothing."
Oliver Hudson's Hoffman Institute course helped him 'unpack' patterns
After divorcing their biological father Bill Hudson in 1980, the 'First Wives Club' actress raised Oliver and his sister Kate Hudson solely by herself.
Goldie eventually met her lifelong partner Kurt Russell, 73, in 1983 when Oliver was just seven years old.
The connection between Bill, Oliver, and Kate was strained for a considerable amount of time after Goldie and Bill separated.
Oliver said that after taking a week-long course at the nonprofit Hoffman Institute, which he characterized as "unpacking the patterns that have been put upon you from your parents and then stepparents as well," his perspective on his childhood transformed.
Oliver shared in a recent 'Sibling Revelry' episode, "I went in there thinking it was all going to be about my dad and then [Kurt Russell], my stepdad who raised me, but whatever that connection was, and then my dad who wasn't there."
"The forgiveness and the compassion that you feel towards them at the end of this process is unbelievable because then you realize that they're only repeating the ship that they went through, you know, with their parents."
