WASHINGTON, DC: Mitch McConnell, the minority leader in the Senate, resisted President Joe Biden's demands over funding to Israel. McConnell emphasized that Israel should not be receiving instructions from the United States on how to carry out their fight against Hamas, according to The Hill.

McConnell said in an interview with Politico, "It’s a democratic ally with an elected government — a unity government — and we shouldn’t be telling them how to conduct a war on their own borders."

He added, "If they are a democratic ally, we don’t get to pick the leaders. And this is a unity government … it’s not about the prime minister."

Just one day before, Biden had warned Israel, saying that if it launched a full-scale assault on Rafah, a city in southern Gaza that is home to over a million Palestinian refugees, he would stop transferring some weapons to that country.

Biden said in an interview with CNN, "I made it clear that if they go into Rafah — they haven’t gone in Rafah yet — if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities — that deal with that problem."

Notably, Israel has been informed by the White House that until a secure evacuation plan for civilians is in place, the invasion of Rafah is not supported. According to reports, the US stopped sending weapons to Israel last week due to worries over Rafah's invasion.

McConnell disagrees with Biden's threat to impose restrictions on weaponry for the American ally, despite being a major player in Congress' passage of foreign aid last month.

He informed Politico, "We should not be telling them how to protect themselves. We should not be conditioning the arrival of military equipment that they need because of some domestic view that [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is unpopular. Completely irrelevant to the war."

Internet trolls Mitch McConnell as he resists Biden's conditions on aid to Israel

Many internet users trolled Mitch McConnell as he resisted President Biden's demands over funding to Israel. A user wrote on X, "It is way past time for McConnell to hang it up. Senate is not adult daycare facility," while one added, "You’re past it! Resign!"

A person also said, "This dude needs to go into his forever box," whereas one mentioned, "McConnell has no credibility. He has no right to criticize President Biden as he is part of the Maga GOP that is voting for the ex-president who tried to overturn a free and fair election. Sit down, Mitch!"

A person also wrote, "Moscow Mitch with another treasonous comment!"
