LOS ANGELES, CA: Demonstrations tied to the 'No Kings' national day of action escalated into clashes with law enforcement in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, March 28, resulting in multiple arrests and the use of crowd-control measures.

Authorities said the situation intensified in the evening after a day of largely peaceful protests drew large crowds to the Civic Center area.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), 75 individuals were arrested near Alameda Street following a dispersal order issued after confrontations between protesters and law enforcement.

The protest was part of a broader nationwide mobilization linked to ongoing political and policy debates.

Officials said demonstrators had marched through central areas of the city before tensions increased near a secured federal property between Aliso and Temple streets.

Federal agents deploy tear gas in LA

Law enforcement confirmed that tear gas was deployed during the confrontation after some individuals in the crowd began throwing objects toward a fenced federal site.

LAPD statements indicated that items such as bottles and debris were directed at officers and property, prompting a response from federal authorities on the scene.

The use of tear gas caused sections of the crowd to disperse into the surrounding streets. Video footage and eyewitness accounts showed protesters moving away from the immediate area, while a smaller group remained near the site of the confrontation.

Officials said the deployment of chemical agents was intended to control the situation and prevent further escalation. Similar enforcement responses have been reported in other cities during recent demonstrations.

Following the escalation, LAPD issued a formal dispersal order covering the intersection of Alameda and Temple.

Authorities instructed individuals in the area to leave immediately, warning that failure to comply could result in arrest or additional enforcement action.

Police units were deployed to clear the area, and announcements were made over loudspeakers directing both protesters and bystanders to exit the zone.

While many participants left after the order was issued, some remained, leading to further enforcement measures.

LAPD officials stated that the order was issued to ensure public safety and protect nearby property. At least one officer sustained minor injuries during the earlier confrontation, according to police reports.

By late Saturday, authorities confirmed that 75 individuals had been taken into custody. Of those, 66 were adults cited for failure to disperse. Eight minors were also detained on similar grounds, according to the LAPD Central Division.

In addition, one adult was arrested on a separate charge related to possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police said no major injuries were reported among those detained.

Law enforcement maintained a presence in the area overnight, with officers continuing patrols around Alameda Street and nearby intersections.
