Sources say the filmmaker’s daughter Romy Reiner, 28, who lives just across the street, reportedly made the devastating discovery when she popped over after failing to reach her parents.
According to the Daily Mail, a masseuse arrived for a scheduled 2 pm appointment and got no answer. She immediately alerted Romy, who then walked into the scene and dialed 911 in panic.
Nick Reiner was not at his parents’ Brentwood home when their bodies were discovered on Sunday afternoon.
Instead, police later found him several miles away near the University of Southern California, roughly six hours after the grim discovery.
By Sunday night, Nick had been formally arrested on murder charges in connection with his parents’ deaths. He is currently being held without bond at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Jail.
Tensions the night before
Insiders reveal the bloodshed may stem from a raging family feud that erupted the night before.
Reiner and his troubled son Nick, 32, allegedly clashed in a “very loud argument” at Conan O’Brien’s star-studded holiday bash Saturday. Witnesses say Nick was “freaking out” and harassing guests. He has notably battled drug addiction and homelessness in the past. Rob and Michele reportedly stormed out early, fuming.
A source close to the family told TMZ Michele had confessed in recent months that they were at their wits’ end over Nick’s issues. “We’ve tried everything," she reportedly said.
Cops are grilling Nick following reports he’s now in custody as the prime suspect. Romy allegedly told officers a family member is “dangerous” and “should be a suspect.”
Hollywood in mourning after Rob Reiner and wife's death
The Reiners leave behind three kids, namely Jake, Romy, and Nick, plus Rob’s daughter Tracy from his marriage to Penny Marshall.
A family spokesman said, “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton vowed, “We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation.”
LA Mayor Karen Bass called it “a devastating loss."
