Aaron Carter’s doc says late singer took drugs from his GF while demanding dismissal of wrongful lawsuit
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Aaron Carter’s doctor, John Faber, has defended himself while accusing the late singer’s unnamed girlfriend of providing drugs to him.
The doctor has also requested the court to dismiss the wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by the late pop star’s ex-fiancee, Melanie Martin, as per InTouch Weekly. He has insisted that he was not negligent while prescribing medicines to Carter, who lost his life on November 5, 2022.
Aaron Carter ‘felt frequently depressed’, his doctor claims
In his favor, Faber, who was the doctor of the ‘I'm All About You’ singer from 2020 to 022, has filed a motion in the court.
In the legal submission, he claimed that he first saw Carter in June 2020 and at the time, he complained of anxiety. The rapper informed him about taking two milligrams of Xanax thrice a day.
He also reportedly told him that he was used to taking inhalants, alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, prescription tranquilizers, opiates, barbiturates, hallucinogens, and sleeping pills since the age of 18.
Faber’s motion stated, “The patient reported that he felt frequently depressed, easily fatigued, irritable, and had experienced 10 panic attacks in the last month. The patient denied any history of or ongoing substance abuse, however, the medical records indicate that Dr Faber still suspected that the patient may have had a history of substance abuse.”
Aaron Carter took ‘controlled substances’ from his girlfriend
As per the doctor’s attorney, he “typically had visits with the patient via telephone or video conference that would usually occur one to two times a month, and Dr Faber would also answer the patient’s emails on a regular basis.”
The lawyer also alleged that “throughout this time period, the patient’s medical records indicate instances where the patient would admit to Dr Faber that he failed to adhere to Dr Faber’s medication plan or indicated that he had obtained controlled substances from other non-medical sources, including an instance where he obtained controlled substances from his girlfriend.”
The motion did not mention the identity of the girlfriend but it noted that Carter had agreed to take controlled substances from non-medical sources.
It added, “Dr Faber also warned the patient that if he failed to adhere to the medication treatment plan, Dr Faber would be forced to terminate his treatment of the patient.”
Aaron Carter tested positive for ‘opioids like hydrocodone and oxycodone’ months before his death
In his motion, the doctor revealed that the Department of Child and Family Services had contacted him in May 2020 after the ‘Through My Own Eyes’ hitmaker tested positive for “opioids like hydrocodone and oxycodone.”
However, it was found that those drugs were prescribed to Carter by his dentist. From June 19, 2022, to October 21, 2022, Carter was under Faber’s care.
“The patient did not exhibit any medication red flags or substance abuse behavior,” he said.
Faber also went on to renew Carter’s prescription for Xanax along with Trazodone Gabapentin, Seroquel, Hydroxyzine, Halcion, and Propranolol. “This was the last time that Dr Faber prescribed any medications to the patient,” the motion claimed.
Aaron Carter and Dr John Faber last connected in October 2022
As per the papers, the last video conference between Faber and Carter happened on October 21, 2022, when the latter confessed to participating in an episode of huffing compressed gas.
The doctor asked him to not huff again and also stopped his medicine prescription. But just a few weeks later, Carter was discovered dead.
Faber’s lawyer added, “The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Report indicated that the cause of death was ascribed to drowning as effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam. The report also ruled the death an accident, which occurred due to the patient being submerged in the bathtub after inhalation of compressed gas and intake of alprazolam.”
