LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised Doug Emhoff's "masculinity" and "values" during a campaign stop in Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 30, despite reports of the second gentleman slapping his former girlfriend and cheating on his first wife.

A few months ago, several reports claimed that Emhoff impregnated the family's nanny while married to his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff, and allegedly slapped an ex-girlfriend at the Cannes Film Festival. He was also accused of being "misogynistic" in the workplace, according to Daily Mail.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called Doug Emhoff the ideal modern male and glossed over the allegations against him to gush to a crowd of students at the University of Nevada.

She said, "He's not afraid to embody and pass on these values of security and this idea that you can, you can let your girl shine. And he embodies that really well. We should all be really, really proud of him."

She told students that the example Emhoff has set "has been incredibly important this presidential cycle."

She continued, "A lot of ideas of what being a man means putting a woman down or putting queer people down. And this idea that, like, in order to elevate one's value, we need to diminish the people around us."

She added that that's not masculinity but "weakness" and "insecurity" instead. She said, "But Doug really is the contrast - the second gentleman - is a real contrast to that."

She stated, "He's able to stand beside the vice president's side and lift her up instead of putting her down. And he knows that by lifting up women, he's also lifting up his fellow men around him. He's not afraid to be a dad of a powerful daughter and a great son."

Second gentleman Doug Emhoff's controversies

In August, Doug Emhoff acknowledged in a statement to CNN that he had an affair during his first marriage, following the publication of alleged details about the relationship by a British tabloid.

In a statement provided to CNN, Emhoff said, "During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side."

The Daily Mail reported in August that Emhoff's first marriage ended after he got his children’s nanny pregnant. The nanny, Najen Naylor, 47, did not deny the story.

A source told Daily Mail that Naylor did not keep the child, though her social media shows a video of a mysterious baby girl named Brook in 2009.

In another scandal, a woman alleged that Emhoff slapped her during an argument while they were a couple in 2012, prior to his marriage to Kamala Harris.

She alleged that Emhoff struck her so hard during the Cannes Film Festival in France in 2012 that the force of the slap spun her around. Emhoff's spokesperson denied her claims.

Some online comments read, "I wouldn’t want a fiance or wife like her. She doesn’t seem like the kind of lady who’d be at my side and work with me as a team" and "AOC days are getting shorter every day."

One person also stated, "And these people wonder why the American people don't take them seriously," whereas another mentioned, "She can't believe in women's causes and praise Emhoff after the allegations that have surfaced."

A user also wrote, "Dems love to be lied to by their politicians. It makes them happy that some people actually think politicians are honest."

Another commented, "I’m speechless, how could any woman endorse Doug Emhoff’s behavior with his horrific violations against women."
