Andrew Garfield makes rare comments about future family plans amid romance with Monica Barbaro

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Andrew Garfield has never hidden the fact that he would love to have a family someday. In a recent interview, Garfield spoke about his thoughts on fatherhood and admitted that seeing his friends raise children has made him look at parenthood differently. His comments come as he continues to be linked to actress Monica Barbaro.

For those unaware, Garfield has been dating Barbaro since 2024, but he tries to keep it as low as possible.

During a recent interview with GQ, published on November 4, Garfield, 43, spoke about whether he sees children in his future. The actor said watching his friends raise their children has given him a glimpse of both the happy moments and the struggles that come with parenthood.

“I’m the same as everyone else who’s even remotely cognizant of where we are and where we’re heading,” he said. Garfield also spoke about how children today are growing up surrounded by screens and social media.

“I look at my friends who do have kids and the beauty of it obviously, but also the struggle of it and the inescapable agony of young people’s longing to belong to the screen rather than belong to the real world,” he added.

While these concerns have made him think twice, the actor said the thought of having children has never really left him. “It gives me pause for sure, like any person, I suppose,” he continued. “I’m childless,” he said. “I’m not entirely proud of that. I would love to have kids. I would love to start a family.”

“That being said, there is that kind of biological imperative, and there is that just kind of instinct, and there’s an image that your life with for so long- I have, anyway- of the concept of being a dad and going on an adventure.”

When asked about the possibility of becoming a father, Garfield admitted, “It’s mysterious to me.”

Garfield's comments also come amid reports linking him to 'A Complete Unknown' actress Barbaro. The two have been romantically linked since 2025, but neither has shared much about their relationship publicly.

Garfield has previously explained why he prefers to keep his personal life away from the spotlight. In an interview with Vanity Fair, he said, “It feels like a violation of my inner world, my private world.” He also made his position clear, adding, “I have never, and I won’t ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone.”
