Anna Faris opens up about 14-year-old son’s faith, says she tries to ‘challenge’ his beliefs
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anna Faris is opening up about her relationship with her teenage son, Jack, and the evolving conversations around his beliefs as he grows older, while reflecting on their bond, his personality and the values shaping their relationship.
She also looked back on their family dynamic and the ways they have remained close over the years. Faris previously shared how much she values their time together and the connection they have built.
Anna Faris and her son discuss religion
Faris is opening up about the conversations she has with her 14-year-old son Jack about faith and religion. During an appearance on comedian Chelsea Handler’s 'Dear Chelsea' podcast on Thursday, August 20, the 'Scary Movie' star shared that the two have had disagreements over religion.
“He is religious. I didn’t grow up with religion. He’s asked me to accept Jesus Christ [as my savior],” she told Handler, adding, “And I told him I would do anything for him, including this, but it’s going to take a whole lot of long conversations.”
Faris said Jack, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Pratt, is “as solid as a tugboat, emotionally,” making her comfortable asking him difficult questions about religion.
“He just doesn’t get easily jarred. He handles situations really well,” she explained. Faris also described the "challenges" Jack faces in her view and recalled asking whether being pro-life was “a luxury” and questioning his thoughts on a “mega pastor” she considered a grifter.
Jack responded, “Maybe,” and agreed that “mega pastors are the worst.” Faris said she appreciates that he is examining religion while beginning to recognize hypocrisy and that they can have long conversations about it.
Anna Faris reflects on Jack’s upbringing and their family bond
Faris and Pratt married in 2009 before splitting in 2017. They welcomed Jack on August 17, 2012, naming him after Faris’ father. Pratt later married Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019, and they share three children, Lyla, Eloise and Ford.
She also married cinematographer Michael Barrett in July 2021 and is stepmom to his daughter, Margot. Although the former couple have largely kept Jack out of the public eye, he has made a few public appearances. In June, Jack accompanied Faris to the red carpet premiere of 'Scary Movie 6,' where they were joined by Barrett and Margot.
Faris previously praised Jack as “down-to-earth” and said she felt “so lucky” to have him as her son. In March 2025, she told PEOPLE, “He’s always had such a solid anchor. I don’t know where, being a kid in Hollywood, he got that.”
She added, “I don’t know how he got so down-to-earth, but I’m really grateful.” She has also spoken about their close relationship and their mother-son traditions and revealed that every six months Jack gets to choose an activity, including trips to Disneyland or the San Diego Zoo.
She described enjoying feeling “rascally” with him, playing imaginary games and acting as a “mean nanny” or “boarding-school headmistress.” Despite their 2017 split, Faris and Pratt have remained close as co-parents and have kept their blended families close.
In 2019, Faris said she hoped to eventually have “group Thanksgiving dinners together” and even spend Christmas or vacations together.
