Anne Hathaway reflects on surprise pregnancy
Speaking with host Seth Meyers, she described her third pregnancy as a joyful experience, “Oh, my gosh. It’s amazing. It’s amazing,” she said. “I mean, we knew what we were doing, but we were so shocked it worked.”
The actress added that the unexpected timing inspired a playful nickname for the baby. “We were so shocked it went this way, so we’re calling this one our buzzer-beater,” she said with a laugh.
Hathaway and Shulman, who married in 2012, are already parents to sons Jonathan and Jack. While discussing her growing family, the 'The Odyssey' star shared that her sons are currently at an age where they enjoy spending time together.
“They’re in this really fun zone where we all love hanging out together, which I understand may change,” she said. Laughing, Hathaway added, “Well, we will always love hanging out with them, but their feelings about us might change.”
She said that because of this stage in their lives, she and Shulman are fully embracing the present. “We’re all just in it,” she said adding, “Adam and I are soaking it up. I’m having the most wonderful time with my family, living in the city of my dreams, and work seems to be going really, really well.”
Anne Hathaway revealed pregnancy on her own terms
Hathaway announced that she was expecting her third child in an Instagram video shared on Friday, June 19. Wearing a flowy white dress, she walked into the frame with her arms placed in front of her stomach as Barbara Lewis’ song 'Baby I’m Yours' played.
She lowered her arms to reveal her growing baby bump before smiling, hugging her stomach and running out of the frame. She captioned the post, “x Baby, I’m yours x.” Later that month, an insider told PEOPLE that Hathaway is currently focused on family as she prepares to become a mother of three.
“She’s grateful for where she is in her career and for the opportunity to be part of a film that means so much to so many people,” the source said adding, “Complaining just isn’t Anne. She approaches things with gratitude and professionalism, and that’s exactly how she handled the press tour.”
“Right now, she’s focused on family and enjoying a little downtime,” the source added, while noting her upcoming releases of 'The Odyssey,' arriving July 17, and Verity, due this fall. According to the insider, she deliberately chose to keep the spotlight on 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' during its press tour before publicly sharing her pregnancy.
“Anne was excited about the movie and wanted the attention to stay on the project, she has always been very good at separating her personal life from her work life,” source said.
