Anne Hathaway shows how she will disappear from spotlight after five movies in hilarious video
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anne Hathaway has officially followed through on her promise to disappear from the spotlight after completing a five-film run in 2026. The actress marked the release of her latest movie, 'Verity,' with a hilarious Instagram video that showed her literally vanishing in a plume of smoke.
In the video, Hathaway appeared to be getting ready for the 'Verity' premiere while explaining that the movie was coming to theaters on October 2. She then began to reveal what would happen the following day before suddenly disappearing from the frame. The gag came after Hathaway had previously joked that she would vanish once her fifth movie of the year was released.

Hathaway's video began with the actress getting ready for the 'Verity' premiere. She said, “We’re heading out to the Verity premiere,” before explaining that the movie would be released on Friday, October 2.
“Verity comes out in theaters Friday, Oct. 2, and then on Oct. 3…” Hathaway said before an animated plume of smoke appeared and she disappeared from the video.
The moment was followed by a humorous reaction from a member of her team, who appeared to look for Hathaway after she vanished. The video then cut to fake breaking news headlines announcing the actress' disappearance.
One of the headlines referenced Hathaway's decision to stay off the red carpet until 2027, while another joked about the actress vanishing into a plume of smoke. The video also featured a message from Hathaway directed at several fellow stars.
“Zendaya, Tom, Rob, Florence – bring it home!” the message read.
Hathaway then thanked her fans and supporters for being part of her unusually busy year. “Thank you, everyone, for your support, and for making this an incredible, unforgettable year,” she said in the video.
Hathaway wrapped a five-film 2026 run with 'Verity'
The Instagram gag came after Hathaway completed five movie releases in 2026. Her lineup began with 'Mother Mary' in April, followed by 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' in May, 'The Odyssey' in July and 'The End of Oak Street' in August. 'Verity' became her fifth film of the year when it arrived in theaters on October 2.
Hathaway had already revealed her plans to take some time off after the release of 'Verity.' During an earlier interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said, “The movie comes out on October 2nd, and on October 3rd, I’m going to, like, vanish in a plume of smoke and you’re not going to see me until you have to.”
She added, “So, I’m definitely going to disappear, take some time off.”
Her Instagram video turned that comment into a literal joke, allowing Hathaway to end her unusually busy year of movie releases and promotional appearances with a fitting final disappearance.
