WASHINGTON, DC: Barack and Michelle Obama made a stylish return to the public eye with a date night in Washington, putting an end to weeks of swirling divorce rumors.

The outing marks their first joint appearance since December 2024 and comes after speculation mounted over alleged tension between the former first couple.

Rumors gained traction earlier this year as the two appeared separately in public, with Michelle notably absent from Barack’s side at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Whispers intensified as the couple reportedly clashed over Kamala Harris’ presidential candidacy. However, Michelle recently set the record straight during her March appearance on 'The Jennifer Hudson Show' and again on Sophia Bush’s 'Work in Progress' podcast, assuring fans there’s no trouble in paradise.

A viral video captured by a fellow diner at the upscale Italian restaurant Osteria Mozza has reignited public interest in Barack and Michelle Obama's relationship, this time for heartwarming reasons.

The video shows the former first couple descending a staircase after dining in a private room, greeted by a wave of applause from other patrons.

Barack, 63, and Michelle, 61, smiled and waved in appreciation, with Barack stopping to shake hands with staff and briefly chat with guests before being escorted out by security, as per Page Six.

The exact timing of the dinner remains unclear, but the footage quickly spread online.

Barack had previously dined at the same restaurant without Michelle just days before attending Trump’s inauguration in January, a moment that fueled the recent divorce speculations.

Michelle Obama recently addressed those rumors directly in a candid conversation with actress and activist Sophia Bush on the 'Work in Progress' podcast. Laughing off the speculation, she explained that her absence from the spotlight was simply a personal decision after years of constant public attention.

People have a hard time accepting "a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself,” she said.

Michelle added that her choice to step back wasn’t about her marriage but about self-care, something society often misinterprets.

“When I say ‘no,’ for the most part, people are like, ‘I get it,’ and I’m OK,” she shared. “And that’s the thing that we as women struggle with — disappointing people. So much so that people, they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing," added the former first lady.

She continued, “But that’s what society does to us. We actually finally start going, ‘What am I doing? Who am I doing this for?’ If it doesn’t fit the stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative or horrible.”
