Ben Affleck expresses ‘respect and admiration’ for ex Jennifer Lopez two years after split

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ben Affleck has only nice things to say about his former wife, Jennifer Lopez, and her acting, including her performances in 2025’s ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ and 2019’s ‘Hustlers’.

Affleck and Lopez got married in 2022 but went their separate ways in 2024 before finalizing their divorce in early 2025.

Now, over a year after finalizing the divorce, the 54-year-old has praised the 57-year-old singer in an interview with Variety published on Wednesday, October 7.

“I’m biased. I have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for what she can do,” he said.

The ‘Good Will Hunting’ star also reflected on award shows after being asked if he thinks “she got overlooked”. He told the publication, “What I’ve found with awards is that sometimes the degree of commercial success for things doesn’t always correlate to my taste. It’s a part of this weird, subjective business that people bring a lot of their own stuff to.”

“I don’t always think the right person won the right award. But guess what? I don’t think you die and go to heaven, and God says, ‘This was the actual best picture in 1986.’ At the end of the day, it’s just a bunch of people voting on movie prizes,” Affleck added.

This was, however, not the first time Affleck had complimented Lopez.

At the screening of ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ last year, Affleck reportedly called his ex-wife “incredible.”

“She's fabulous. And it's an enormously difficult—it's all these masters, so it's not edited in such a way where you can make a little mistake here and there in the dance,” he reportedly said.

“It’s singing and dancing and acting and also trying to hold together these multiple tones in the movie. That's just probably the maximum level of difficulty for a performer,” the ‘Gone Girl’ actor had futher said, adding, “She pulls it off with grace and aplomb and she's wonderful. I love her performance in the movie. She's amazing, spectacular, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.”

Affleck did not stop there as he also claimed that Lopez was “born to play” that character. “It's a genre that she's always wanted to do her whole life,” he stated.
