WASHINGTON, DC: A bill aimed directly at former President Donald Trump was proposed by Representative Bennie Thompson on Friday, April 19, which would deprive convicted felons serving prison sentences of their Secret Service protection, as per the New York Post.

Thompson, the former chairman of the House Jan 6 select committee, said in a statement, "Unfortunately, current law doesn’t anticipate how Secret Service protection would impact the felony prison sentences of a protectee – even a former President. It is regrettable that it has come to this, but this previously unthought-of scenario could become our reality."

Trump's "unprecedented 91 felony charges in Federal and State courts across the country have created a new exigency that Congress must address to ensure Secret Service protection does not interfere with the criminal judicial process and the administration of justice", according to a factsheet on the so-called DISGRACED Former Protectees Act.

According to the document provided by Thompson, "this measure would apply to former President Trump" in the event that he is found guilty of a felony.

Notably, if approved, the bill will relieve some of the possible hassles and operational issues associated with imprisoning Trump if he is given a prison sentence.

Moreover, Thompson said that the legislation needs to be updated "so the American people can be assured that protective status does not translate into special treatment – and that those who are sentenced to prison will indeed serve the time required of them".

The Manhattan trial for Trump's purported payments of hush money to women is now underway. In addition, Trump will go on trial in Florida for allegedly hoarding classified White House documents; in Washington, DC, for allegedly trying to rig the 2020 election; and in Georgia for allegedly trying to rig the results of the Peach State's 2020 election through an intense racketeering case.

Notably, in each of the four instances, he has entered a not guilty plea to all accusations. If found guilty on all counts, he could spend hundreds of years in prison.

Internet slams Bennie Thompson for introducing the bill

Several Trump supporters slammed Bennie Thompson as he proposed a bill that would deprive convicted felons serving prison sentences of their Secret Service protection.

A user wrote on X, "Up til now, they’ve thinly veiled their evil. This is just straight up evil, and they must be made to pay a price for destroying our system and the norms that have sustained us these many years."

While one added, "With all the things that lawmakers can focus on, this is what they choose to focus on..."

A person also wrote, "I’m sure this is going to be a high priority for @SpeakerJohnson. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Another added, "How about .. we take his security .. and his car and driver ..and his health care for life."

A person also mentioned, "Just like other such moves in Congress by democrats, this one could likely come back to haunt them if one day soon, a republican majority House and Senate are seated. Karma can get interesting."
