Benny Blanco recalls his mom saying 'you should marry Selena Gomez' years before they dated

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Benny Blanco made a surprising revelation about his mother, Sandra Levin, during the Tuesday, June 23, episode of his podcast, ‘Friends Keep Secrets’.

The record producer, born Benjamin Joseph Levin, revealed that years before he even started dating Selena Gomez, his mother urged him to marry the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ star.

Blanco reportedly said, “2019, I’m shooting a video with Selena. I’m dating someone else, ok?. My mom’s on the video shoot and she says, she’s just sitting there, she’s like, ‘Hon, you should marry Selena.’”

“And I was like, ‘What?’ And she was like, ‘You should be dating someone like Selena.’ And there were like two times in my life where I left a specific session or late video with her where I was like, 'Wow, she’s so cool. She’s like really cool,’” the 38-year-old added.

Blanco further shared that although he and Gomez were friendly, they weren't “best friends,” and he always thought she was “so cool.”

Elsewhere during the podcast, the recipient of the 2013 Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame recalled a conversation with one of his exes, who told him, “I was texting with her one time and she said, ‘You know, it’s so great you guys got married. I remember you talking so positively about Selena even when we were together.’ Just as like a friendly thing.”

One of the guests on Blanco’s podcast, Aaron Paul, asked him if his mother had “planted the seed” for his marriage to the Rare Beauty founder. 

He replied, “My mom planted the seed. She was like, ‘She’s got her head on her shoulders.’ She was like, ‘She’s so sweet, she’s this and that.’”

“Everyone says you always marry your best friend. That’s how it works. And she’s my best friend,” he added.

This came months after Gomez opened up about her marriage to Blanco. She reportedly said, “It’s been just a dream so far. And I know it’ll come with ebbs and flows, but [he’s] the most beautiful person I could do that with.”

After the wedding, the two stars went on a “little honeymoon” road trip.

“They celebrated for days during their wedding and were on such a high. They really enjoyed slowing down, going on a road trip to explore and relax. They drove up the Cali coast and also visited Texas,” a source claimed.
