Bill Maher calls Donald Trump 'luckiest motherf***er' ever while condemning assassination attempt
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Comedian Bill Maher condemned the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump while performing at a stand-up show on Saturday, July 13. He praised Trump's luck in surviving the incident and claimed that it had done immense political damage to the left, according to Fox News.
Multiple shots were fired at the presumptive GOP nominee while he was speaking at a campaign rally at Butler Farm Show grounds in Pennsylvania on Saturday. A bullet grazed Trump's right year before he ducked for cover and was tackled by the Secret Service agents.
The shooter, later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was neutralized before Trump was evacuated off stage. While he did not suffer any more serious injuries, one rally-goer was killed at the venue while two others were critically injured.
Bill Maher's take on rally attack incident
"I'm glad he's OK. Trump, I've got to say this, the luckiest motherf***er that has ever walked the face of the earth. And again, I'm happy he's OK," Maher said on stage hours after the shooting. "I mean, 2016, that has got to be the luckiest – he lost the popular vote by a lot, he just pulled an inside straight."
"I unequivocally denounce," said the 'Real Time' host of the shooting. He noted that some of Trump's opponents make crack jokes over the incident "because they hate him so much."
"Not from me. Not from me," assured Maher, earning applause from his audience.
While Trump was being escorted off the stage on Saturday, he reportedly made the federal agents pause for a moment, pumping his fist in defiance and seemingly mouthing the word “Fight” twice, leading the crowd to cheer and chant, "USA. USA. USA."
Speaking of the picturesque moment of Trump pumping his fist in the air while his right ear and cheek streamed with blood, Maher guessed the 2024 election may be "over," as "MAGA Nation finally has its full martyr."
"He played this scene like he rehearsed it," he noted, imitating the fist-pumping.
"Whoever was the shooter has done so much damage to the left, (they) lost a lot of moral high ground in the (accusation), 'You're the violent people,'" said Maher.
"You know, liberals don't shoot people. Liberals don't solve it that way," he added.
He did address the extreme right-wing rhetoric promoted by Project 2025, stating, "This s**t has got to stop. Because none of this violence happens in a vacuum. It's never in a vacuum."
The incident would go on to spawn memes, suspected Maher, quipping, "Biden can't get through a debate, and a bullet can't stop Donald Trump!"

Bill Maher trolled for his take on Donald Trump's attempted assassination
Maher's take was slammed by netizens across the aisle over the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). While the MAGA supporters trolled him for saying that "liberals don't shoot people," the other side claimed the shooter to be a registered Republican and called out the comedian for ignorance, as the following tweets demonstrate.
"Liberals don’t shoot people? What century are you in?" scoffed a user.
"You lost every honest person when you said liberals don’t shoot people. Do better," echoed another.

"Don’t blame liberals for this. The guy was a registered Republican. Get off your moral high horse," stated a third.
