Body language expert highlights Trump's ‘glaring’ respect for Putin during Alaska summit

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA: President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met face-to-face on Friday, August 15, for the first time in six years, holding high-stakes talks in Alaska focused on ending the war in Ukraine.
The meeting featured a firm handshake, joint press statements, and striking displays of confidence and mutual respect, but it concluded without any ceasefire agreement.

Trump and Putin's body language reveals confidence, power dynamics, and mutual respect
Analyzing the interaction, body language and relationship expert Nia Williams described Donald Trump as “extremely confident,” noting his “shoulders back and head upwards” posture.
Williams, who is the director of dating service Miss Date Doctor, said Trump maintained “strong eye contact” with Putin and appeared “engaged and interested in what he was saying.” She further observed “approval in his eyes” when Putin expressed gratitude toward his American counterpart.

The body language expert added that the press conference displayed “clear power dynamics” alongside “a glaring mutual respect.”
“The power dynamics displayed between Putin and Trump reveal dominance, control, comfortability with proximity and a closeness due to a glaring mutual respect with the head nods and eye contact speaking volumes,” Williams.
She also analyzed Putin’s stance, calling it “comfortable and relaxed,” with “strong and purposeful still arm movement,” signaling leadership and authority.
Alaska talks end without Ukraine ceasefire breakthrough
Although the Alaska summit was billed as a potential turning point, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin did not announce any agreement to halt the war in Ukraine. Both leaders delivered prepared statements to the media and avoided taking unscripted questions, signaling a cautious approach to negotiations.
Officials on both sides suggested further meetings were likely in an effort to “thrash out” a peace deal.

As their joint appearance concluded, Putin appeared to extend an invitation to Trump to visit Moscow. The POTUS responded with measured interest, saying, "Oh, that’s an interesting one. I’ll get a little heat on that one, but I could see it possibly happening."
Trump to meet Zelensky in Washington
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington, DC, on Sunday, August 17, ahead of his planned meeting with Donald Trump.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) after he arrived in the capital, Zelensky wrote, "I have already arrived in Washington, tomorrow I am meeting with President Trump. Tomorrow we are also speaking with European leaders. I am grateful to @POTUS for the invitation."
"We all share a strong desire to end this war quickly and reliably. And peace must be lasting. Not like it was years ago, when Ukraine was forced to give up Crimea and part of our East—part of Donbas—and Putin simply used it as a springboard for a new attack. Or when Ukraine was given so-called ‘security guarantees’ in 1994, but they didn’t work," he added.

The Ukrainian leader stressed, “Of course, Crimea should not have been given up then, just as Ukrainians did not give up Kyiv, Odesa, or Kharkiv after 2022. Ukrainians are fighting for their land, for their independence. Now, our soldiers have successes in Donetsk and Sumy regions."
"I am confident that we will defend Ukraine, effectively guarantee security, and that our people will always be grateful to President Trump, everyone in America, and every partner and ally for their support and invaluable assistance. Russia must end this war, which it itself started. And I hope that our joint strength with America, with our European friends, will force Russia into a real peace. Thank you!" Zelensky concluded.
