Brad Pitt's son Maddox, 24, files to drop his surname after his siblings did same

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt has been hit by a new blow as his other child has taken a step to drop his surname.

The A-lister shares six children—Maddox, Vivienne, Pax Thien, Zahara, Knox and Shiloh—with his former wife Angelina Jolie but does not reportedly share a good relationship with most of them.

Now as per a new report, the 24-year-old Maddox has filed a request to legally remove "Pitt" from his surname on Thursday, May 28, while making his full name just as Maddox Chivan Jolie. He also mentioned the reason as "personal.” 

Maddox, however, has already started using his new name informally. Earlier this year when he was mentioned in the end credits of his mother's movie, ‘Couture’, it read, “Maddox Jolie.”

Shiloh removed 'Pitt' from her name on her birthday last year

Before Maddox, his sister Shiloh had taken the same step in 2025. She filed for the name change on her birthday on May 27. At the time, her lawyer Peter Levine said that she “made an independent and significant decision following painful events.”

“Shiloh Jolie did not take out an ‘ad’ announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate. As Shiloh’s attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required,” the attorney added.

Apart from the two, their sisters Zahara, 21, and Vivienne, 17, have also begun using their names without “Pitt” in it.

During Zahara’s recent graduation ceremony, her name was announced as Zahara Marley Jolie, rather than Jolie-Pitt. 

The 62-year-old actor was not present at the event, with one insider close to Jolie reportedly saying, “Nothing prevented him from showing up for her. Or ever visiting her. The day was about all she accomplished. Not whether he was willing to attend.”

This came after an earlier report said that the ‘Fight Club’ star’s equation with his older children remained estranged after Jolie accused him of “physically and verbally” assaulting her and her children during a private flight in 2016.

A tipster even spilled that Pitt “has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule.”

While another source had added that the ‘Troy’ star “continues to play the victim. His fractured relationship with his children is a direct result of how he has treated them. He should stop blaming others. If he wants to rebuild a relationship with the kids, he should acknowledge his own actions and make amends.”
