WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden's first national address from the Oval Office after he announced his reelection campaign exit took place on Wednesday, July 24.

Brit Hume, the chief political commentator of Fox News expressed his disbelief in Biden's justification for withdrawing from the presidential contest which he shared in his address.

Brit Hume says Joe Biden was fine with running for reelection

Joe Biden passed the torch to Kamala Harris and said the time was for "new generation" of leaders to unite the nation in the best way.

He said, "There's also a time and place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, younger voices. And that time and place is now."

"To hear the president tell it, he was fine with running for re-election, thought he could win the race and serve for four more years until sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, when it dawned on him, apparently, that it was time for a new generation of leaders," Hume said on Fox News.

Early on Saturday, Biden reportedly informed senior aids his campaign was proceeding "full steam ahead" despite mounting calls from his party for him to resign following his poor performance during the presidential debate on June 27.

But later that night, after consulting with two of his closest advisors, the president seemed to have second thoughts about the course of his reelection campaign and announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he was stepping aside.

Brit Hume says Joe Biden's ouster seemed inevitable after poor presidential debate performance

In his Wednesday address, Joe Biden noted the accomplishments of his government over the previous three years but declared that the "defense of democracy" is "more important than any title" and that he would not run for reelection.

"There was enough mention of democracy and the sacredness of it to suggest that it was more than a little political motivation in his speech, since democracy and the salvation of it has been such a theme of his and Kamala Harris's election program," Hume said.

"But it was quite a conversion overnight, it seems, if you believe it. I'm not sure I do," he added.

"I think when we all look back on this in the fullness of time and perhaps with a better explanation of exactly the decision-making process the president went through, it will be seen as inevitable once that debate happened that he would have to step aside and that someone else would have to come forward," he continued.

Internet reacts to Brit Hume's assertion of Joe Biden quitting the presidential race

Donald Trump supporters hailed Brit Hume's assertions as 'insightful' while others said it was a coup, yet one suggested, given unclear answers that the GOP got tricked.

"What an insightful man," wrote one on X. Another suggested, "It was a coup, plain and simple."

"Solid take. Biden is definitely not above trying to put the best opportunistic spin on a bad situation, but that is basic politics," wrote another.

"Agree. He was forced out. That’s socialist democracy. Government take over!!" wrote one more.

"Bwahaha Trump and the GOP got played," quipped an X user as Republicans and Democrats equally remain anxious about what made Biden drop out suddenly.
