WASHINGTON, DC: The White House responded to South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem's recent comments about President Joe Biden's dog, Commander, on Monday, May 6.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre urged Governor Noem to refrain from further comments that could be perceived as inappropriate and advised her to "stop digging herself into a hole."

Noem faced widespread backlash for revealing in her forthcoming book that she shot and killed her 14-month-old puppy, Cricket, some twenty years ago, as per The Hill.

During an appearance on CBS News' 'Face the Nation' on Sunday, she further suggested that Commander, Biden's German shepherd who had bitten Secret Service personnel on multiple occasions between October 2022 and June 2023, should have met a similar fate.

What did Karine Jean-Pierre say regarding Kristi Noem’s remarks about President Joe Biden’s dog?

Jean-Pierre told reporters, "I would say to her [Noem] is, she probably should stop digging herself into a hole."

She further stated that Noem's hateful comments about the President’s dog, Commander, on Sunday were deemed "disturbing" and "absurd" by the White House.

"Here, this is a country that loves dogs and you have a leader talking about putting dogs down, killing them,” said Jean-Pierre, adding, "And, that’s a disturbing statement to say."

In her book, 'No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward', which is slated to release on May 7, Noem apparently indicated that she would handle Commander in drastically different ways from Biden if she were ever appointed to the White House.

"Commander, say hello to Cricket," wrote the governor.

Jean-Pierre confirmed on Monday that Commander, who left the White House in October, is currently residing in Delaware with a Biden family member.

Noem, who is seen as a potential running mate for Donald Trump's 2024 ticket, told CBS, "So, how many people is enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog and what to do with it? That’s a question that the president should be held accountable to."

One wrote, "her whole platform and personality now is killing animals to look tough," and another said, "We can all agree. Conservatives are simply dumba***s. There’s no redeeming qualities left for them. They went too far right, and have too much pride to come back toward the center….."

"Is Kristi Noem anti-animals? That is sad," remarked a person, while someone else added, "Maybe she can dig herself into a gravel pit." One more echoed, "Let her keep digging."

Referring to her inappropriate comments regarding President Biden's dog, an individual exclaimed, "seriously this is soooo immature!!!!"
