Noem faced widespread backlash for revealing in her forthcoming book that she shot and killed her 14-month-old puppy, Cricket, some twenty years ago, as per The Hill.
During an appearance on CBS News' 'Face the Nation' on Sunday, she further suggested that Commander, Biden's German shepherd who had bitten Secret Service personnel on multiple occasions between October 2022 and June 2023, should have met a similar fate.

"Here, this is a country that loves dogs and you have a leader talking about putting dogs down, killing them,” said Jean-Pierre, adding, "And, that’s a disturbing statement to say."
In her book, 'No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward', which is slated to release on May 7, Noem apparently indicated that she would handle Commander in drastically different ways from Biden if she were ever appointed to the White House.
"Commander, say hello to Cricket," wrote the governor.
Jean-Pierre confirmed on Monday that Commander, who left the White House in October, is currently residing in Delaware with a Biden family member.
Noem, who is seen as a potential running mate for Donald Trump's 2024 ticket, told CBS, "So, how many people is enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog and what to do with it? That’s a question that the president should be held accountable to."
