LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears has exited a treatment program just days before her scheduled DUI arraignment. The 44-year-old singer had voluntarily checked herself into the facility last month. This came after her March 4 arrest in Ventura, California. She left rehab after 3 weeks.
The singer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics and alcohol in March. Prosecutors with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed a misdemeanor DUI charge against her on Thursday, April 30, the same day she was photographed on the passenger seat inside a car.
Britney Spears left treatment ahead of her arraignment
The 'Baby One More Time' hitmaker has been making headlines again in recent days. Her arraignment is set for Monday, May 4, though she is not required to be present at the court. After the arrest, a representative for the 'Gimme More' singer said she would be taking “the right steps and comply(ing) with the law.”
Spears entered rehab voluntarily on April 12. “Hopefully, this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life,” a representative said, as per People.
“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being," as per the rep.
As per publication, the source said her sons played a key role in encouraging her to seek help, adding, "Her sons were a big part of getting her to rehab. They've been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy."
She shares sons Sean Preston Federline, 20, and Jayden James Federline, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. Another insider said, “She understands the seriousness of her situation and felt this was the best step moving forward. She's now seeking treatment."
After her exit from the treatment facility, another source the Daily Mail, "Britney is doing very well, she feels great and is optimistic about her future. She will continue to work on herself with counseling to be the best person she can be and really thrive in life."
Britney Spears may avoid jail through a ‘wet reckless’ plea
Spears is unlikely to face jail time if her DUI case is resolved through a lesser charge known as a “wet reckless.” This type of plea allows a defendant to admit to reckless driving involving alcohol or narcotics. It typically results in 12 months of probation, along with credit for any time already spent in custody.

As part of the agreement, the defendant must complete a DUI education program and pay the required state fines and fees. Spears may qualify for this option because she has no prior DUI record, her arrest did not involve a crash or injuries, and her blood alcohol level was reportedly low.
Officials noted that outcomes like this are fairly common. They are often granted when a defendant shows initiative in addressing underlying issues through rehabilitation or a treatment program.
