LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bruce Springsteen has voiced his support for Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency with Tim Walz as her running mate in a heartfelt video posted on his Instagram account on Thursday, October 3.

The endorsement comes ahead of what Springsteen described as one of the "most consequential elections in our nation’s history" where he made it clear that he opposes Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance.

Bruce Springsteen's call for unity

Bruce Springsteen opened his message by acknowledging the polarized state of the nation, comparing it to the civil war era in terms of political, spiritual, and emotional division.

“Perhaps not since the Civil War has this great country felt as politically, spiritually, and emotionally divided as it does at this moment. It doesn’t have to be this way," said Springsteen.

The legendary musician emphasized the importance of rediscovering the common values and shared stories that have historically united America.

He highlighted that his vision of America as a country defined not only by military might and economic power but by its commitment to ideals such as freedom, social justice, and equal opportunity, according to The Independent.

“America is the most powerful nation on Earth, not just because of our overwhelming military strength or economic power, but because of what she stands for, what she means, what she believes in: Freedom, social justice, equal opportunity," said Springsteen.

Bruce Springsteen's criticism of Donald Trump

Bruce Springsteen stressed that the right to love freely and other personal liberties are part of what makes America great, a point of stark contrast with his view of Donald Trump, whom he called “the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime.”

He described the former president as someone who threatens the sanctity of America’s foundational principles and warned against another term in office.

“His disdain for the sanctity of our Constitution, the sanctity of democracy, the sanctity of the rule of law, and the sanctity of the peaceful transfer of power should disqualify him from the office of president ever again," said Springsteen.

"He doesn’t understand the meaning of this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American,” he added.

“Harris and Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone, regardless of class, religion, race, political point of view, or sexual identity,” he said.

“They want to grow our economy in a way that benefits all, not just the few, like me, on top,” the singer added.

Springsteen linked his support for Harris and Walz to the same ideals he has championed throughout his five-decade music career.

"That’s the vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years," said the musician.

“Everybody sees things differently, and I respect your choice as a fellow citizen.  But like you, I’ve only got one vote, and it’s one of the most precious possessions that I have," he noted.

The rock singer urged his fans to think carefully about their choices before confirming his support as he said, “That’s why come November 5, I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Thanks for listening.”
