PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: Vice President Kamala Harris raised eyebrows during her recent appearance at a Q&A session with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in Philadelphia.

Rumors have been swirling for a while now about Harris potentially having a drinking problem. These concerns were heightened following a particularly strange appearance at the NABJ event on Tuesday, September 17, where the  Vice President slurred her words and delivered a confusing five-minute monologue that seemed to go nowhere.

The questions followed: Was she drunk? Was something else going on?

Kamala Harris struggles with words during Q&A

During the Q&A, Kamala Harris appeared to struggle with her words. She spoke at length about the situation in Springfield, Ohio, where schools had been evacuated due to bomb threats. “It’s a crying shame,” Harris began. “I mean, my heart breaks for this community.”

Harris tried to describe the events with deep emotion, but many viewers found her delivery unsettling. She talked about the heartbreak of children missing their school picture day due to the reported evacuations.

"It was school photo day. Do you remember what that’s like? Going to school on picture day? Who are dressed up in their best? Got all ready and knew what they were going to wear the night before? And had to be evacuated! Children!" she said.

Harris’s scattered and rambling speech made it difficult to follow her train of thought. She launched into an attack on former President Donald Trump, blaming him and other GOP figures for spreading dangerous rhetoric that she believed led to the threats in Springfield, HuffPost reported.

“I learned at a very young stage of my career that the meaning of my words could impact whether somebody was free or in prison,” Harris said, referring to her early days as a district attorney and later as California’s attorney general.

“When you are bestowed with a microphone that is that big, there is a profound responsibility that comes with that ― that is an extension of what should not be lost in this moment: this concept of public trust,” Harris continued. “It means that you have been invested with trust, to be responsible in the way you use your words, much less how you conduct yourself.”

“We’ve got to say that you cannot be entrusted standing by the seal of the president of the United States, engaging in that hateful rhetoric that as usual is designed to divide us as a country, designed to have people pointing fingers at each other,” she said.

Harris reiterated her campaign slogan during the Q&A, saying that it was time to “turn the page” on Trump’s era of lies and attacks.

“This is exhausting, and it’s harmful, and it’s hateful and grounded in some age-old stuff that we should not have the tolerance for,” she said. “Let’s turn the page and chart a new way forward and say you can’t have the microphone again.”

The notion that Harris might have been under the influence didn't come from nowhere. Last month, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) fueled speculation with a post on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting there were “a lot of rumors out there about Kamala having a serious drinking problem.” They cryptically added, “⏳Stay Tuned…”

During the interview, Harris was also asked whether she had full confidence in the Secret Service—given recent assassination attempts on Trump.

She responded, “I do,” before quickly pivoting the conversation back to Springfield, Ohio. “But I mean, you can go back to Ohio. Not everybody has Secret Service,” she said. “There are far too many people in our country right now who are not feeling safe.”

Kamala Harris trolled on social media over her meandering speech

Kamala Harris faced significant mockery on social media for her lengthy speech, with some users speculating that she might have been drunk or under the influence.

"My God. She’s drunk. This is so bad," one posted on X. "It’s like watching a bad sitcom," another wrote.

"Not sure if she’s drunk but something is seriously off about Kamala," a user added. "She is definitely drunk or high as hell on something," read a comment.

"Sober or drunk I just cannot listen to her nonsensical babbling and whining. She always sounds whiny," someone else offered.

"I don't drink, but if I listened to all of that, I'd probably start!! Between her and Twinkle Toes Tim, I'd need a double!" another quipped.
