NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump, whose interaction with reporters at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago on Wednesday, July 31, triggered a wave of backlash, however, claimed to have "crushed it" at the event, reported The Daily Beast.

Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, the GOP nominee posted on the same day, "The questions were Rude and Nasty, often in the form of a statement, but we CRUSHED IT!"

However, it was a tough sell for the controversial businessman, as netizens were quick to call him out for his remarks on the NABJ stage which Republicans have since had to rush to defend.

Donald Trump's remarks at NABJ convention

Donald Trump created multiple controversies during his time at the NABJ convention, from attacking ABC journalist Rachel Scott to questioning his political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris' ethnicity.

When Scott asked why Black voters should trust him, the GOP nominee went on the offensive saying, "I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner. A first question. You don’t even say hello, how are you? Are you with ABC? Because I think they’re a fake news network, a terrible network. I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit."

His jibe at Harris came at another point during his interaction with Scott, when she confronted him about multiple GOP leaders accusing the vice president of being a 'DEI hire.'

"I've known (Harris) a long time indirectly... and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn't know she was Black, until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black," responded Trump, adding, "So I don't know, is she Indian or is she Black?"

Internet claims Donald Trump lost his chances at the election

Netizens slammed Trump over his comments on X (formerly Twitter), stating that his post about crushing it at the NABJ conference was in reality about crushing his chances of being reelected to the White House.

The following tweets on the subject demonstrate the prevalent sentiment.

"I would say the only thing he crushed was any chance he would ever be President again. Today is the beginning of the end for Trump 2024. It's like the Allies crossing the Rhine," wrote a user.

"This was Trump’s ruinous Biden-debate-like event. The tide is quickly turning on our racist would-be dictator!" exclaimed another.

"He came off as a jackass," jibed a third.

"The only thing he 'crushed' was any hope of being elected. What a disgrace and embarrassment!!!! So f’ing offensive. Wtf does he think he is ???" commented a fourth.

"Let’s have a proverbial viking burial for Donal Trump 🔥," quipped a fifth.

"He’s rapidly going into freefall," noted yet another.

"We don't need to waste our time with this clown. He's finished," echoed a seventh user.

"Delusional Donnie," labeled a user, as another observed, "Insanely racist weird and creepy!"
