HOUSTON, TEXAS: Vice President Kamala Harris responded to former president Donald Trump's scathing remarks about her at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention in Chicago on Wednesday, July 31, while speaking at a Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority event in Houston the same evening.

Speaking at the NABJ convention, Trump created multiple controversies, from attacking ABC journalist Rachel Scott to questioning Harris' ethnicity.

When asked why Black voters should trust him, the GOP nominee told Scott, "I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner. A first question. You don’t even say hello, how are you? Are you with ABC? Because I think they’re a fake news network, a terrible network. I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit."

At another point of the conversation, he said of his Democratic rival, "I've known (Harris) a long time indirectly... and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn't know she was Black, until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black."

Kamala Harris calls out Donald Trump for his scathing remarks about her

"This afternoon, Donald Trump spoke at the annual meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, and it was the same old show," Harris stated during her address in Houston.

"The divisiveness and the disrespect. And let me just say, the American people deserve better. The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth, a leader who does not respond with hostility and anger when confronted with the facts," she continued. "We deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us. They are an essential source of our strength."

The presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee went on to share her own stance on why she is taking on Trump and the GOP.

"Ours is a fight for the future. And it is a fight for freedom," she said.

"Across our nation, we are witnessing a full-on attack on hard-fought, hard-won fundamental freedoms and rights. The freedom to vote, the freedom to be safe from gun violence. The freedom to live without fear of bigotry and hate, to love who you love openly and with pride. The Freedom to learn and acknowledge America's true and full history, and the freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not have her government tell her what to do."

"A fight for almost fundamental freedoms," Harris added.

MAGA supporters slam Kamala Harris online

Donald Trump's supporters took to X (formerly Twitter) to attack Harris for calling out the GOP presidential nominee for his remarks at the event in Chicago and accused her of "racial pandering".

"This is expert level gas lighting," wrote one social media user.

"Oh, the woman in the most divisive administration in history is talking about divisiveness. The hypocrisy is duly noted," stated another.

"American people deserve more than racial pandering," said one person.

"Her unlikeability is off the charts," quipped another.

"We deserved a better border czar. And stop pandering with racial posturing," wrote one individual.

"She is a complete lying worthless bag of air. She has no accomplishments and is a puppet of the democratic machine. An inserted candidate with no votes!" exclaimed another.
