CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Donald Trump engaged in a heated exchange with ABC News reporter Rachel Scott at a convention of Black journalists on Wednesday, July 31.

The confrontation began when Scott asked Trump why Black voters should trust him with another term.

The journalist cited the former president's past comments related to the birther conspiracy about former president Barack Obama, his call for certain Democrats to return to their countries of origin, and his meeting with a white supremacist at Mar-a-Lago.

In response to the question, Trump said, “I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner. A first question. You don’t even say hello, how are you."

“Are you with ABC, because I think they’re a fake news network, a terrible network. I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit. I love the Black population of this country, I’ve done so much for the Black population of this country," he continued.

“I think it’s a very nasty question. For you to start off a question and answer period especially when you’re 35 minutes late … in such a hostile manner, I think it’s a disgrace," Trump added.

Donald Trump questions Kamala Harris' absence from NABJ conference

At the NABJ conference, Donald Trump sat for an interview moderated by three journalists including ABC’s Rachel Scott, Semafor’s Kadia Goba, and Fox News host Harris Faulkner.

He also voiced his displeasure about Vice President Kamala Harris' absence from the event, although NABJ leadership noted they are working with Harris' team to arrange an interview with her in September, according to The Hill.

Trump's participation in the event has sparked backlash from several Black journalists as the decision to invite him given his history of attacking the press and journalists of color.

Despite the backlash, the organizer defended their decision to invite the former president as they emphasized the importance of interviewing a leading candidate for the White House.

Internet denounces Donald Trump's attack against Rachel Scott

After Donald Trump angrily responded to Rachel Scott during the NABJ conference, netizens blasted the former president's behavior and also the organizer's decision to invite him to the event.

"The rudest person on earth complains if anyone asks him a hard question," a user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote.

Another user tweeted, "This event is such a delicious trainwreck, and I'm living for it, but I'm still mad at the level of disrespect that Trump is showing those Black women."

"Her great offense is confusing Donald Trump. It pisses him off. He is always confused and always pissed off," a netizen commented.

"This appearance could be the end of his run for re-election," a netizen remarked while someone else wrote, "He’s never liked a strong woman."

"His hatred of any woman who confronts him and embarrasses him is on full display. He will not debate Harris," a user tweeted.

Another individual commented, "He can't control himself. What a fabulous quality for any POTUS."
