WASHINGTON, DC: Barack Obama has been hesitant to support Vice President Kamala Harris as rumors are he believes she would lose to former president Donald Trump.

However, sources now indicate that Obama may soon fully support the Democratic contender for president.

Barack Obama likely to endorse Kamala Harris soon

It is expected that Barack Obama will endorse Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday, July 25, two sources familiar with the former president told Politico.

"That endorsement could come as soon as Thursday," one of those given permission to remain anonymous and speak about endorsement although not yet public, told the publication.

Obama was reportedly one among the Democratic leaders who asked Biden to reevaluate his candidacy in private following poor debate performance.

Trump voiced similar worries on Fox News on Thursday, July 25, stating that Obama and Nancy Pelosi played significant role in convincing Biden to withdraw when he criticized the president's Oval Office address to the country, detailing his exit from reelection as "terrible."

Why has Barack Obama not endorsed Kamala Harris yet?

Despite Joe Biden crowning Kamala Harris as his heir apparent, Obama has not endorsed her.

On Sunday, July 21, he let the Democrats select an "outstanding nominee."

"We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges," Obama said.

Now, Obama's endorsement is likely to come following huge speculations that he fears Harris would lose to Trump after the president suddenly dropped out of the race.

"Obama’s very upset because he knows she can’t win," a source close to the Biden family revealed, according to a New York Post report on July 24.

"Obama knows she’s just incompetent — the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her," the source further elaborated.

According to a Politico report, a source familiar with Obama, revealed, “He believed it was important for the party to have a legitimate process where delegates select our new nominee, and he thinks VP Harris has been off to an impressive start."

Barack Obama was initially shocked when Joe Biden endorsed Kamala Harris

Barack Obama's initial plan involved persuading Joe Biden to step aside, according to a New York Times article.

However, Biden's rapid endorsement of Harris caught Obama and other Democratic leaders offguard. "Obama was shocked when Joe endorsed her," an insider stated.

After Biden's resignation, Obama, who declined to comment on Wednesday, July 24, wanted Arizona Senator and former astronaut Mark Kelly to be the Democratic presidential candidate at the upcoming Democratic National Convention.

The source noted, "Obama is furious things haven’t gone his way, which is why he is not joining in the Democratic Party’s support of Harris."

Now, Obama may be veering off his course to fully endorse Harris, according to the recent report.
