WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama have reportedly met privately to discuss their strategies for the upcoming 2024 election.

These meetings are part of an effort to safeguard their legacy from former President Donald Trump, according to a recent report by New York Magazine.

Barack Obama's involvement in Joe Biden's 2024 campaign

The meetings, described as "secret" meals, have highlighted the two leaders' concerns about the upcoming election and their campaign plans.

The story titled 'What Obama is Whispering to Biden' details the anxiety Obama and his allies feel about the closely divided nation, the fractured media landscape, and the potential for a Trump victory.

"His anxiety about the election is real," an unnamed friend of Obama told the publication, noting that these concerns reflect those of other top Democrats.

The report also highlights that while Obama is more involved in Biden's campaign than he was in 2020, their relationship remains complicated.

Throughout Biden’s presidency, he and his aides did not rely on Obama as heavily as they did during the previous election cycle.

However, by late 2023, with a Biden-Trump rematch on the horizon, Obama had once again become a central figure in the campaign.

President Joe Biden invited Barack Obama for lunch

Biden's poll numbers had been trending downwards, leading to increased anxiety within his party towards the end of last year as the election year was approaching.

The report notes that since December, Biden had grown anxious and invited Obama for lunch, believing it was a good time to catch up with his old boss.

"Biden knew Obama had been watching his situation, that he’d started digging into the state of the campaign a bit, and that he’d be willing to offer some thoughts," the publication noted.

Additionally, Obama has been engaging in more frequent discussions with Biden's campaign team, focusing on efforts to target young and Black voters.

During a recent event with Biden and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Obama stated, "I take great pride in what the Biden administration has accomplished," Fox News reported.

"And it's a reminder that we don't have to just vote against something in this election. We have somebody to worry about. And there's a whole agenda that we should be concerned about," he added.

Internet reacts to Barack Obama's role in Joe Biden administration

On the internet, many expressed skepticism and concern about Biden's chances of winning the presidential election even as he has been receiving help from Obama.

One user on X commented, "His fourth term is in jeopardy and he knows it."

Another wrote, "I doubt it matters if Biden is there or not TBH." A third user remarked, "Biden badly needs that. Otherwise, it's game over for him," referring to Obama's role.

Another simply stated, "Barry really wants a 4th term." Another user commented, "I have anxiety over the election too, and it isn't because I want Biden to win."
