WASHINGTON, DC: A political group for former GOP presidential contender Nikki Haley threw its support behind Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential bid after President Joe Biden endorsed her for the Democratic ticket.

On Sunday, July 21, Biden announced his decision to step down from the race due to mounting pressure from Democratic donors and elected officials after a disastrous debate last month.

The PAC, earlier known as 'Haley Voters for Biden' changed its name to 'Haley Voters for Harris', seeking to shift the support of Haley voters to the vice president.

Haley, the former UN ambassador, exited the Republican primary race shortly after losing to former President Donald Trump in the Super Tuesday primaries in March. She secured over two million votes at the national level on Super Tuesday with prominent support from moderates and college graduates who opposed the real estate mogul's Make American Great Again (MAGA) movement.

Nikki Haley PAC director says Kamala Harris is 'best suited' to beat Trump

Craig Snyder, the PAC's director, said to Newsweek via email that the organization considered Harris the "best suited to defeat Donald Trump in November."

"A tough former prosecutor, the Vice President comes from the centrist wing of the Democratic Party, not it's left most fringe...For Haley voters, all of this puts the Vice President in a sweet spot for them to register their ongoing opposition to [former] President Trump," he touted the endorsement.

Despite her earlier stance on not falling into Trump's camp, Haley fully endorsed the former president at last week's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where she called out the Biden administration.

She also took a swipe at Harris, saying, "Kamala had one job...one job...and that was to fix the border. Now imagine her in charge of the entire country."

According to Snyder, the former South Carolina governor's "disparaging comments" at the RNC were "motivated by political rather than substantive concerns."

He ensured that those remarks would not be a decisive factor in the voting choices of Haley's supporters, who protested against Trump during the primaries.

The PAC also declared its support for Harris, sharing Biden's endorsement post on X. "We support @JoeBiden's recommendation and will immediately change the name of our organization to Haley Voters for Harris. There is no time to lose," the PAC wrote.

It further encouraged her to choose a moderate running mate, suggesting the names of Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Gov Andy Beshear, and North Carolina Gov Roy Cooper.
