NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie claimed former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley only addressed the Republican National Convention at Milwaukee because she wants to run for the White House in 2028. Christie made the comments during his appearance on the July 19 episode of 'The View.'

Sitting at the Hot Topics table with co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin, Christie also shared his candid take on JD Vance after the latter was announced as the running mate for the GOP nominee Donald Trump on the first day of the convention.

Chris Christie roasts Nikki Haley for bending the knee

Chris Christie and Nikki Haley both ran as Republican candidates for 2024 against former president Trump in the primaries but dropped out at different stages. While Christie stood firm in his assertion that Trump was not the right choice for the highest office in the land, Haley switched her support in favor of Trump after dropping out of the race and urged her delegates to vote for him in the upcoming general election.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who used to be a strong supporter of Haley while she was running, was roasted by Christie, "About Alyssa's friend Nikki Haley... she (Griffin) guaranteed me Nikki Haley would never support Donald Trump, she is a principled person."

"Let me tell you what Nikki Haley is unified by - she is unified by her own tortured ambition. And she showed up on that stage for one reason and one reason only on Tuesday night, (which) is that she wants to run for president again in 2028, and she thinks by showing up on that stage that that's going to help her."

"Let me clue her in on something," he continued. "She has got less of a chance in '28 than she had in 2024 after that performance."

Chris Christie questions JD Vance's character

"I just think JD is another guy who is driven by ambition," shared Christie when Navarro asked about his take on the latter being announced as the GOP vice presidential candidate.

"There is no other reason to go from calling (Trump) 'America's Hitler'... to now saying he is one of the greatest presidents of his lifetime. He is, because he wanted, first, (Trump's) endorsement for the Senate in 2022, that's when he bowed the first time. And once he was comfortable down there, he figured why not just stay down there... and maybe he'll pick me for Vice President," he said.

"So JD is very smart, he's very accomplished, he's very articulate, he has lots of positive qualities," expressed Christie. "But what everyone has to remember about these jobs is it's about character. In the end, you cannot predict what's going to come at a President's desk. But what you can predict, if you know the character of the person, is how they'll react to it," he added.

"And if JD has now shown himself willing to do that, then I think you really have to question his character," Christie said.
