NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie joined 'The View' co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin to discuss Donald Trump's speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Christie argued that Trump has not been fundamentally changed by the assassination attempt and that his moderate tone in the address was a result of "acting on TV for decades."

"He is who is," Chris Christie said of Donald Trump when co-host Joy Behar asked if he felt that the latter was able to strike a unifying tone in his RNC speech.

"There is no question in my mind that if you get shot at, you're affected by it. And I guarantee that he has been affected by it. He just hasn't been changed by it," he argued. "Anybody would be in shock if all of a sudden you get shot and you're not expecting that, but let's not forget that it doesn't change fundamentally who he is."

Christie felt that, at Trump's age of 78, people rarely change "the core of who they are," saying that it was his staff who wrote his speech who really "tried to meet the moment" at the convention.

"But more than a third of what he said last night was ad-lib, and all the ad-lib was back to what he normally does - 'This is the grievance against me, this is how horribly I have been treated, woe is me, but thank God I haven't given up so that I'm here for all of you.' I mean it's just who he is and he's not going to change."

Chris Christie says media 'failed the American people'

The former GOP presidential candidate shared that the media coverage of Trump during the first three nights of the RNC felt as if "every media correspondent had taken drugs," as they claimed that Trump looked "solemn" and "changed."

"He (Trump) is an actor. He has been acting on TV for decades," reminded Christie. "And he knew the camera was going to be on him, that's the easy part for Donald Trump. It's when he opens his mouth that the acting becomes more difficult," he said.

"I think the media this week completely failed the American people. They bought hook, line, and sinker, all the garbage that the Trump campaign was leaking out to them," he added.
