MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: CNN anchor Chris Wallace criticized Donald Trump's speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC), calling it a "rambling speech."

On Thursday, July 18, Trump accepted his GOP nomination and delivered his first speech after the attempted assassination against him on July 13 in Pennsylvania.

Speaking about Donald Trump's GOP nomination acceptance speech, Wallace said, “It seemed as if he couldn’t keep up the act."

“And so, we started hearing about ‘crazy Nancy Pelosi’ and cheating on elections and talking about Biden," he said on CNN.

“Frankly, it was a long speech, it was a rambling speech, it was a speech by an older man, and I couldn’t help but think that the people that are gonna be happiest tonight are not the people at Trump headquarters, but the people — the Democrats, maybe at Biden headquarters, maybe at the headquarters of other people who think they’re gonna replace Joe Biden," Wallace added.

The former president's speech marked as the longest acceptance speech by a major party candidate as it lasted more than an hour-and-a-half.

Chris Wallace reveals why he is disappointed by Donald Trump's speech

Earlier this week, Trump and his advisers said that he had revised the original version of his convention speech draft following the assassination attempt, opting for a more restrained tone, according to The Hill.

Despite the promised restraint, Trump criticized former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and President Joe Biden.

Wallace further noted the part of the former president's speech that disappointed him.

“Part of the, I have to say for me, disappointment, in this speech, is because the Trump campaign had talked so much about how we were gonna see a softer, more reflective Donald Trump,” he said.

“And, he had a line early on, he said, ‘I’m going to be president for all Americans, because there’s no victory in winning for half of Americans,’ and I thought, ‘Well, we’re off to the races here, and this is really gonna be a different Donald Trump.’ As you say, he then went in, in very reflective, somber, un-Trumplike detail … talking about how God saved him, saved his life and seemed genuinely reflective," Wallace added.

Internet blasts Chris Wallace's criticism of Donald Trump's RNC speech

As Wallace commented Trump "couldn't keep up his act" in his GOP nomination acceptance speech, netizens disagreed with the CNN anchor's remarks and slammed his criticism of the former president's speech.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "Chris Wallace couldn't keep his show on CNN for more than 30 minutes," while another user tweeted, "Wallace couldn’t keep up the act."

"Did they actually think he would become a Democrat after nearly dying," a netizen commented while another user wrote, "Unlike you, who are nothing but an act and a pretty mediocre one at that!"

"This man is a lame," a user tweeted and a netizen wrote, "You are soooo irrelevant."
