WASHINGTON, DC: Nikki Haley announced the suspension of her 2024 presidential campaign on Wednesday, March 6, paving way for a rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

In a press conference held at South Carolina, Haley expressed gratitude for the support she had garnered since the launch of her campaign just over a year ago, according to Daily Mail.

Nikki Haley says she has 'no regrets' of exiting GOP race

Addressing the South Carolina crowd, Haley said, "I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done that. I have no regrets."

The former South Carolina governor acknowledged the likelihood of Trump securing the Republican nomination.

Quoting the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Haley said, "Never just follow the crowd, always make up your own mind" as she refrained from endorsing Trump.

"It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in the party who did not support him," she added.

Nikki Haley won only two out of 26 Super Tuesday contests

Following Super Tuesday where Haley secured only two out of 26 contests, her path to the nomination became unfeasible.

Barring any significant legal obstacles, Trump's trajectory now appears unimpeded as he continues to challenge Joe Biden in the upcoming November election.

In 2010, Haley was elected South Carolina's first female governor in 2010. From January 2017 to December 2018, the 52-year-old served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under the former President.

Following her tenure in the Trump administration, Haley both embraced and critiqued Trump.

In February 2023, Haley initiated her presidential bid, highlighting priorities such as foreign relations, border security, and fiscal responsibility.

She distinguished herself by challenging her former boss throughout the campaign, even as Trump maintained a considerable lead in the polls.

During the debate, Haley shared, "It is time for a new generational conservative leader."

"We have to look at the fact that three-quarters of Americans don't want a rematch between Trump and Biden. And we have to face the fact that Trump is the most disliked politician in America. We can't win a general election that way," she explained.

Nikki Haley slammed for her decision to drop out of the GOP race

Following Haley's announcement of her exit from the GOP race, netizens rallied to criticize her while most social media users said they were not surprised by her decision.

"Most people saw this coming three months ago," a user wrote on X (formerly Twitter) while another wrote, "A surprise to no one, not even to Nikki Haley herself!"

"Good riddance and don’t come back," a user tweeted and another remarked, "Insincere and bitter. Political career is over for you."
