Outrage as Donald Trump reveals his scapegoat if defeated in upcoming election
TUCSON, ARIZONA: Former president Donald Trump hinted he would hold the older supporters responsible in the event of losing the election in November
In his first campaign event since being criticized over his debate performance against Vice President Kamala Harris, the GOP presidential nominee weighed in on the changing demographics of his followers.
"We have a lot of young people here," Trump said at a rally in Tucson, Arizona, on September 12, as per The Daily Beast. "My audiences, they’ve gotten younger and younger, do you notice that?"
However, he added he would favor older adults even if they cost him the election.
Trump says he likes older people more than young supporters
Despite admitting the changing demographics of his followers, Trump said he would stick to the older supporters, apparently hinting they would be responsible if he loses to Harris on Election Day.
"Don’t worry, I still like the old people the best; I don't care!" the 78-year-old said, pointing to the audience seated in front of him as the crowd cheered.
"Let that cost me the election. I like the—I still like the old people the best. Got to stay with the people that got you there, right?" he continued.
An exit polling examination by the Pew Research Center showed Trump received more support from the older demographic when he won the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton. 51% of voters between the ages of 50 and 64 and 53% of 65 years and older voted for the real estate mogul over his Democratic rival.
Trump's insinuation that he would blame the younger demographic of his supporters if defeated by Harris came amidst ongoing criticisms about his subpar performance at the ABC News debate.
In his first face-off with the vice president, he floated debunked conspiracy theories, including a fake rumour about pet-eating Haitian immigrants in Ohio.
On September 12, he declared he would not agree to another debate against the Democrat, prompting Harris' campaign chairman, David Plouffe, to call him a "chicken."

Addressing supporters in Tucson, Trump said that since he had already done two debates this election year, he had turned down a third one.
The former president debated President Joe Biden in June and performed rather well, eventually leading his successor to give into the Democratic push and exit the re-election bid.
"And because they were successful, there will be no third debate," Trump said at the rally. However, the real estate mogul expressed his displeasure over a below-average performance by slamming moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis and accusing ABC News of being biased against him.
Internet slams Trump for hinting he would blame his older supporters if defeated in November
Netizens called out Trump's veiled suggestion that he might hold the old demographic of supporters if defeated in the election. Voicing the outrage on Facebook, many claimed that the former president himself should be responsible and not his followers.
"Trump alone is to blame when he loses…" a user said.
"Trump, the adult-child, never owns up to anything. The word 'accountability' is not present in his dictionary," another remarked.
"Anybody but himself. He alone is never responsible for his own words and actions," read a third response.
"Never blames himself and his loser or non existent policies it’s always someone else’s fault. Keep hanging out with crazy RW conspiracy nuts like Loomer and people will hopefully see his real face," added a fourth user.
"He is a Narcissistic parasitic treasonous liar. He is to blame. His crimes go unpunished!" someone else wrote.
"On brand. Either I win or they cheated. He should run for Pope, as he's never done anything wrong," another took a swipe at Trump.
