WASHINGTON, DC: Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) on Tuesday, March 10, confirmed he believes the US was responsible for the girls' school bombing in Iran. Kennedy stated that the loss of life was a "terrible mistake" and insisted that the country must own up to its errors.

Kennedy argued that while an investigation is currently underway, he will not hide behind official probes to avoid speaking the truth about the strike on the school that killed over 150 students.

John Kennedy calls Iran school strike mistake

During an interview on CNN, Senator Kennedy said that he felt it was important to be honest about the strike on the school. He noted that while mistakes happen, it is crucial for the government to admit them.

He stated, "Because I think it's the truth. I mean, we're investigating, but I'm not gonna hide behind that. I think it was a terrible, terrible mistake. The investigation may prove me wrong. I hope so. The kids are still dead. But I think it was a horrible, horrible mistake. I wish it hadn't happened. I'm sorry it happened."

John Kennedy denies intentional Iran school strike

While the senator was quick to apologize, he made it clear that he does not believe the attack was planned.

He stated, "Yeah, I can assure you it wasn't intentional. Uh, that's not, that's the sort of thing Russia does. We don't do that."

He further explained, "But, you know, I don't see any other possible explanation, and when you make a mistake, you ought to admit it, most people understand, no one's perfect, but I don't think our our men and women who are fighting for us did it, intentionally, I'll never believe that."

John Kennedy apologizes for Iran school strike

Kennedy's comments followed his initial admission during an NBC News interview on Monday, March 9.

In that conversation, he first revealed his concerns about the strike on the school in Minab, Iran.

He told NBC, "It was terrible. We made a mistake. Other countries do that sort of thing intentionally, like Russia. We would never do that intentionally. I think the department is investigating it now, and I’m sorry."

“I’m just so sorry it happened. It was a mistake,” he added.

While the Pentagon says it is still checking what happened, the first reports suggest the US was likely behind the strike. Visuals show that an American-made Tomahawk missile was used in the attack.
