WASHINGTON, DC: Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) made strong remarks about the ongoing conflict involving Iran, saying the United States would defeat its enemies swiftly and leave the region once its objectives are met.

Speaking during an interview with Fox News on Sunday, March 8, Kennedy shared his views on how the situation could unfold. The Louisiana senator said he believed the conflict would be short and that the US would not deploy ground troops.

During the conversation, John Kennedy suggested that the US response would be direct and forceful, but limited in duration.

“We're going to turn parts of Iran, those who are our enemies, into fish food — and then get out!” Kennedy said.

The senator indicated that the operation would focus on weakening military threats before the US leaves the region.

Kennedy added that he does not believe President Donald Trump would send ground troops to Iran.

“I do not believe the president will send in troops,” Kennedy said. “In fact, if he sends in troops the thud you hear will be me faceplanting because I fainted!”

John Kennedy pushes back against warnings of endless war

Kennedy’s comments also came after criticism from political leaders who warned that the US could once again be drawn into a prolonged Middle East conflict.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had earlier argued that Americans wanted leaders in Washington to focus on domestic issues instead of military engagements overseas.

“The American people want us to focus on making their life better and making their life more affordable; not getting involved in another endless war in the Middle East that is going to end in failure,” Jeffries said during a separate interview.

Kennedy rejected that view, saying the outcome of the operation was already clear.

“He’s wrong. He’s wrong. We’ve already won,” the senator said while responding to those remarks.

He also said that the goal of the mission was to destroy Iran’s ability to threaten the US and its allies.

John Kennedy says Iranian people should choose new leadership

Kennedy argued that once the military objectives are achieved, the United States would step away and leave the country’s future in the hands of its people.

“I think this will all take a matter of weeks,” he said.

He added that the next phase should come from within Iran itself.

“And after we are done, it'll be up to the good people — and they are good people — of Iran to try to overthrow these knobheads who are in charge now,” he asserted.
