Celine Dion, 56, has demonstrated her commitment to battling stiff person syndrome (SPS) by donating $2 million to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

The funds are earmarked for research led by Dr Amanda Piquet, director of Autoimmune Neurology, who is dedicated to advancing understanding and treatment options for the rare neurological disorder.

Dr Piquet expressed gratitude for Dion's generosity, emphasizing the impact of the donation on advancing SPS research. "I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition to move the field forward with this research," she stated.

Stiff person syndrome, characterized by muscle spasms and stiffness, often takes years to diagnose, complicating treatment efforts.

Since revealing her diagnosis in December 2022, Dion has been vocal about her struggles with SPS, which affects her daily life and singing abilities.

With no FDA-approved therapies available for SPS, treatment typically involves immune and symptomatic therapies, along with supportive care like physical and vocal therapy.

Dion's proactive involvement in funding research reflects her determination to not only manage her own condition but also to contribute to finding a cure.
