SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA: Chaos erupted at Westfield Valley Fair Mall on Black Friday, November 28, when gunfire broke out, leaving three people injured.

San José Police Media Relations confirmed the shooting and urged the public to avoid the area. Investigations are working to determine the cause of the crime, including the individuals or groups responsible.

Witnesses reported hearing as many as 15 gunshots. The shooting occurred around 5:40 pm near the Macy’s store, according to X (formerly Twitter).

Authorities emphasized that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and not an active shooter situation. Officers evacuated and cleared the mall to ensure there was no ongoing threat to public safety.



“In total, three victims were transported to local hospitals with injuries that were determined to be non-life threatening. Please continue to avoid the area. Traffic is severely impacted,” San José Police Media Relations said in a follow-up post on X.



Videos capture panic and chaos at Westfield Valley Fair Mall shooting

Numerous clips shared online showed shoppers running and hiding in stores as police arrived to clear the mall. One user tweeted, “Oh my god this is so scary. Praying for the victims and everyone at the mall right now. Stay safe everyone." 



Another witness shared, “Shooting at Valley Fair SAN JOSE HOLY F**K. Bro I was inside and heard 15 shots go off. They cleared the mall.” 



Additional reports on social media suggested the incident may have involved gang-related activity, though authorities have not confirmed this.



One user wrote, “Black Friday nightmare unfolding right now at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose/Santa Clara, CA. Police confirming at least two victims with gunshot wounds transported to trauma centers. Massive police response, mall on lockdown, hundreds of shoppers sheltering in place or running for exits. Suspect still outstanding, motive unknown.” 



Another noted, “Three people, including a teenager, were shot at Valley Fair Mall. Suspect still at large, but police say this was an isolated incident and not an attack on Black Friday shoppers.”
