NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Pop sensation Chappell Roan elicited mixed responses online after she took a stand against “oppressed people in occupied territories” while calling out the current administration.

The 26-year-old singer, during her performance at the Governors Ball Music Festival on Sunday, June 9, said, as reported by The Hill, “This is a response to the White House, who asked me to perform for Pride. We want liberty, justice, and freedom for all. When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.”

During her performance at the New York City's Governors Ball Music Festival, Roan was in her drag persona. Her attire resembled the Statue of Liberty.

Referring to her polished Statue of Liberty costume, Roan told the audience, “I am in drag of the biggest queen of all. But in case you had forgotten what’s etched on my pretty little toes, ‘Give me your tired, your poor; your huddled masses yearning to breath free'."

“That means freedom and trans rights, that means freedom and women’s rights, and it especially means freedom for all people and oppressed,” she told the crowd, before adding, “It especially means freedom for all oppressed people in occupied territories.”

The audience cheered as she spoke.

Internet reacts to Chappell Roan turning down White House invitation

As Chappell Roan revealed why she rejected an invitation to perform at the White House for a Pride event, many people commented on social media platforms.

One X user tweeted, “She’s such an icon.”

The second user wrote, “Omg this just made me so emo wow.”

The third user said, “It's a shame Biden is just sitting on his magic ‘liberty, justice, and freedom for all’ wand and not using it.”

Iicons only 👏 if a NEW lesbian artist can call out a ‘neutral’ government.. so can all your billionaire faves,” the fourth user stated.

An individual shared, “Oh I see what she meant she basically doesn’t wanna preform there because Biden is funding for a war to continue the genocide of the Palestinians what a queen.”

Another one mentioned, “I love this so much, turning down such a big event — especially at the beginning of her career — for her own personal morals is so genuine, so admirable. not even a huge fan of her music.”

“Chappell roan is the queer pop icon the world needed!” a person tweeted.

“This is so Gaga-coded! I love her so much. We’ve NEEDED another outspoken LGBTQ+ pop idol for a while. Chappell World Takeover incoming,” another added.

However, a critic of Raon noted, “This is unintelligible word salad. This is the most pro-LGBT Presidency in US history by a mile. If she's mad at lack of progress in certain areas, she should take it up with Republicans.”

“No clue who she is, but I bet she'll be right there if trump wins and asks her to perform because that will CERTAINLY be an administration that cares about LGBTQ causes,” another one sarcastically mentioned.

The third one added, “Yep, the best way to reward the most unabashedly pro-LGBTQ administration in history is definitely to publicly crap all over it. This ‘artist’ is as anti-gay rights as any Republican.”
