WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) mocked GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump for picking Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election during his appearance on 'Face the Nation' on Sunday, July 28.

Schumer decided to touch on the subject of Vance being added to the GOP ticket while discussing the election with host Robert Costa. He even suggested Trump might consider swapping his pick before time runs out.

Vance (R-OH) appear on the first day of the Republican National Convention at the Fiserv Forum on July 15, 2024 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Chuck Schumer's comments on JD Vance

"It’s an incredibly bad choice," Schumer said of Vance on Sunday. "I think Donald Trump, I know him, and he's probably sitting and watching the TV, and every day, Vance, it comes out Vance has done something more extreme, more weird, more erratic. Vance seems to be more erratic and more extreme than President Trump."

"And I'll bet President Trump is sitting there scratching his head and wondering, ‘Why did I pick this guy?’ The choice may be one of the best things he ever did for Democrats."

He pointed out that the deadline for the former president to reconsider his choice was fast approaching, with only "10 days before the Ohio ballot is locked in."

"And he has a choice: does he keep Vance on the ticket?" Schumer said. "He already has a whole lot of baggage, he's probably going to be more baggage over the weeks because we'll hear more things about him, or does he pick someone new? What's his choice?"

Presumptive Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris had stated in a video message that Vance would be "loyal only to Trump, not to our country." In turn, Vance had propped up his military service and attacked Harris over the crisis at the southern border, reported Fox News.

Schumer touched upon the subject during the interview, saying that the Biden-Harris administration along with Democrats in Congress "put together the toughest border policy that would have stopped the flow from the border that we've seen in a very long time."

While Republicans had initially supported the plan, the Senator claimed that they backed off on account of Trump, as the latter wanted to campaign for the election on the issue.

"We're happy to bring that up. And case after case, when we bring that up, the voters side with us, not with their policies. We were willing to fix the border. Trump and his Republican minions said, 'Don't fix it, we want chaos for political purposes.' Who do you think's going to win the argument?" Schumer said.

MAGA supporters feels Chuck Schumer is scared of JD Vance

MAGA supporters on X (formerly Twitter) defended Donald Trump for picking JD Vance as the VP candidate, claiming that the pair made Schumer nervous.

"If Schumer is calling on Trump to pick a new running mate, this proves they are terrified of JD Vance," wrote one person.

"How nice of Schumer to offer advice to Trump… That’s not weird at all," said another.

"They can’t stand him which means he made the right choice," pointed out ome individual.

"If Schumer really thought Vance was a bad VP choice he wouldn’t be whining over it," wrote another.

"And why would Schumer try to give Trump good advice?" asked one person.

"And of course Schumer only has Trump’s best interest in mind," added another.
