WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Friday, August 2, that former President Donald Trump is scared to debate Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and called her a "strong Black woman."

On Friday, VP Harris secured the Democratic party's presidential nomination after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July following a poor debate performance against Trump.

Chuck Schumer says Donald Trump is 'scared' to debate Kamala Harris

During an NBC interview, Chuck Schumer said, "Every day either Donald Trump or running mate JD Vance make some kind of crazy statement, and it’s catching up to the American people. The more his poll numbers go down, the more Donald Trump is unhinged, and he’s afraid to debate even Kamala Harris."

He added, "She’s a strong Black woman — Donald Trump may not want to say that, but it’s true, and everyone knows it’s true. He’s afraid to debate her."

Harris has been using the line on herself during the campaign trail, asserting that Trump is too afraid to debate her. At a rally in Atlanta, she said, "If you’ve got something to say, say it to my face."

The Vice President was the only candidate on the ballot for a five-day electronic vote of nearly 4,000 party convention delegates. Harris will be officially announced as the nominee at a convention in Chicago later in August.

Despite Schumer's claims, Trump has agreed to debate Harris on Fox News on September 4. The former President announced on Truth Social, "The rules will be similar to those of my debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his party, but with a full arena audience."

Chuck Schumer slammed for saying Donald Trump is scared to debate Kamala Harris

Many internet users criticized Chuck Schumer after he claimed that Donald Trump is afraid to debate Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and referred to her as a "strong Black woman."

A user wrote on X, "Ironically Trump showed up to an interview that Harris was also invited to yet she didn’t show due to a lunch date with Biden. I’m not for sure it’s Trump that is scared," while one added, "She hasn't even been officially elected! Wait until after the Democratic Convention."

A person also stated, "I’m disappointed that race and gender are still such prominent talking points. Track record and policy are the only things that matter," whereas one mentioned, "Kamala will serve her final word-salad du jour! Lfg! #MAGA."

A user also commented, "Once Trump destroys her, will the Democrat elites force her out too?? Who’s next for them?? Who’s on deck??" while one said, "Trump will destroy Kamala in the debate."

A person said, "She’s not even gonna be the nominee in a few weeks. Why waste the time," whereas one wrote, "Until she’s the formal nominee, it’s a waste of time to discuss debates. The Dems still have time to replace her."
