MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: A group of pro-Israel supporters gathered outside the Midtown office of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Friday, May 10, protesting his alleged "backstabbing" of Israel and failure to speak out against the rising antisemitism across college campuses in the United States.

Roughly 40 demonstrators called for Schumer's resignation after he expressed "faith" in President Joe Biden's decision to halt weapons shipment for Israel's invasion of Rafah, according to the New York Post.

Amid chants of "Schumer, the doomer! It's time to resign!", the pro-Israel protesters voiced their strong disapproval of Senator Schumer's position.

What did pro-Israel protesters say outside Chuck Schumer’s office?

Silvia, a resident of the Upper East Side, criticized Schumer for not supporting Israel's proposed siege in Rafah.

She called him a "sniveling coward" and suggested that the US should ship as many weapons to Israel as they do to embattled Ukraine.

“Start with the arms, the bottom line,” she told the aforementioned outlet. “Send as much arms to Israel as they do to Ukraine.”

The 80-year-old described Schumer as unyielding and stubborn, saying, “Schumer is like a rock, nothing will move him. He is what he is, a putrid human being.”

A representative for Chuck Schumer has emphasized that the Democrat senator was instrumental in the recent passage of $14 billion in direct aid to Israel.

The spokesperson refuted allegations that the senator has not been supportive of Israel, claiming, "These statements are lies. The senator just delivered $14 billion in aid to Israel last week without conditions."

Furthermore, Schumer’s representative went on to say that the New York senator was quick to address the recent storming of a building at Columbia University by protesters and spoke on the Senate floor regarding the matter.

However, Manhattan real-estate worker Joseph Borgen refused to acknowledge these assertions coming from Schumer’s team and said that the Senate Majority Leader was “backstabbing” Israel by supporting President Biden’s position on Rafah.

“I would like to see him step up and stand up to President Biden,” Borgen told reporters, draped in an Israeli flag.

Protestors also held placards saying, "Schmuck, you don't represent American Jews," and "Keffiyeh Chuckie is a disgrace."

"Chuck the Chuck!" they chanted, waving Israeli and American flags. "Schumer's a traitor! "Schumer is a traitor!"

The scathing remarks were directed at Schumer for endorsing President Joe Biden's contentious decision to halt weapons shipment as the Israel-Hamas war has already persisted for almost seven months.

Schumer said Wednesday, “I believe that Israel and America have an ironclad relationship, and I have faith in what the Biden administration is doing.”

Protesters have also expressed their outrage over the ongoing surge in antisemitism that has plagued numerous college campuses, including several institutions of higher learning in New York City.

In response, the representative of Senator Schumer highlighted that the senator has publicly denounced the anti-Israeli looting that occurred at Columbia University.

Schumer said last month, “Smashing windows with hammers and taking over university buildings is not free speech.”

“It is lawlessness, and those who did it should promptly face the consequences that are not nearly a slap on the wrist,” he added.

“It is also unacceptable when Jewish students are being targeted for being Jewish, when protests exhibit verbal abuse, systemic intimidation or glorification of the murderous and hateful Hamas with violence of Oct. 7,” the Senate Majority Leader asserted.
